Port Description

Agadir, Morocco

For an exercise in learning how nature can completely change city, look no further than Agadir. After a monster earthquake in 1960 killed 15,000 people, the city redeveloped the streets and buildings and actually moved the city away from the epicenter. Due to Morocco's declaration of independence in 1956, the leaders of the country decided to show the world that Morocco belonged to the Western world. Thus, Agadir looks like a modern European city, but its Moroccan roots are all over the place, especially in the many suuqs (markets) where you can find good quality Moroccan wares (be careful about hugely inflated prices).
