Suez Canal

Helping to connect the planet's bodies of water, the Suez Canal has existed in numerous forms since the 20th century B.C. The names associated with the canal reads like an ancient history Who's Who list: Xerxes, Ptolemy, Trajan. The French engineer Ferdinand de Lesseps planned the modern version, which stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, thus allowing the smooth transport of billions of tons of cargo a year. Of course, this famous break in the sands of Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula is also a favorite for cruise ships.
