Port Description

Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento has a long history of seduction--even its name is derived from the tempting call of the Sirens who tried to woo Ulysses and his crew ashore. The famous wanderer's only defense against the nymphs was tying himself to the mast of his ship, which meant he missed climbing the steep steps from the harbor for a view across the sparkling Bay of Naples. Orange, lemon, and olive trees cover the hills that rise behind this ancient resort (Agrippa, Augustus, and Antonius all had timeshares here) and an unhurried pace prevails.
