Port Description

Invergordon (Loch Ness), Scotland

Castle-crowned green hills and a rugged coastline characterize the only port in the Scottish Highlands. Invergordon is a convenient starting point for numerous shore excursions, including Loch Ness, the alleged home of the Loch Ness Monster. The nearby village of Cromarty sports a historic courthouse, complete with faithful reenactments of 18th-century trials, and the Royal Burgh of Tain includes a heritage center that traces the village's history as a pilgrimage area during medieval times. Tours are offered at Ord Distillery, purveyors of the famous Glen Ord Single Malt, for a peek into the production process of the “water of life.”
