Port Description

Manzanillo, Mexico

Tropical mountains dip into two true-blue Pacific bays in this serene Mexican resort. Some say Cortes borrowed the name from the flowering chamomile fields, manzanilla in Spanish. Others say the name comes from the abundance of manzanillo trees that once lent their trunks to the shipbuilding trade. One glimpse at the golden sands and rolling waves of Playa Audiencia and Playa Miramar and visitors forget the name game. Anglers cast their lines in the hopes of nabbing a feisty swordfish as birdwatchers gaze at the graceful pelicans and herons diving for dinner at the Laguna de Las Garzas.
