Port Description

Haines, Alaska

Stretch a finger along a map of the Inside Passage and you'll find Haines at the very tip, tucked into the northernmost reaches of Alaska's great watery wonderland. This former Chilkat Indian trading post turned gold-rush supply town is home to the world's largest concentration of bald eagles. Our ping-pong-headed feathered friends can be found nesting along the shores of the Chilkat River. The year-round eagle population of 200 swells into the thousands from October to January when thermal currents bring a late salmon run and a feast for America's symbolic bird.
