Gibraltar, United Kingdom
The rumors of monkeys crawling around this high-profile limestone rock are true. A colony of Barbary macaques congregate at Ape's Den, and have even been known to throw their banana peels at passersby. This does not detract from the spectacle of being perched right at the Strait separating Atlantic from Mediterranean, Europe from Africa. Although fantastic, there is more to see than the view from the cable car. A maze of strategic tunnels and caves, the Trafalgar cemetery for British sailors, a 100-ton gun, and a fascinating museum all tell part of this Very Important Rock's life.
