Sawyer Glacier, Alaska Overview

Until you find yourself bobbing in icy water with icebergs floating all around and you can make out the slight rise of the glacier as it winds its way back into the mountains, only then can you realize how monstrous and large glaciers really are. Sawyer Glacier has carved an intensely deep chasm in the Tracy Arm, with the depths of the water matching the rising cliffs of the surrounding ridges. The blue-white ice continues to break off as the glacier retreats, providing resting places for seals as they try to escape orcas and other predators in the water.
