ms Nieuw Amsterdam - Ship Description
When the Dutch settlers founded a colony on Manhattan Island, they called it Nieuw Amsterdam. Taking a cue from the history books, Holland America has named its newest Signature Class ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam. Designed to showcase the glamour of New York City, the ship will start sailing in 2010 and offers a new level of pampering.
The Nieuw Amsterdam boasts a full line-up of entertainment options so you can relax and have fun exactly as you like. Catch up on world events at the Explorations Café powered by the New York Times, take a cooking class at the Culinary Arts Center presented by Food & Wine Magazine, or let Microsoft-trained "techsperts" show you how to make a digital scrapbook at the Digital Workshop powered by Windows®. And when it’s time to unwind, visit the Greenhouse Spa and Salon with thermal suites and hydro-pool, shop the elegant luxury jewelry boutique, or just reserve a poolside cabana for an afternoon of “me time.” No matter what you choose to do, one thing is for sure: your kids will be having the time of their lives too with the Club HAL® program and in the teens-only hangout Loft.
The ship’s staterooms spotlight all the Signature of Excellence premium amenities like Elemis bath amenities and terrycloth bathrobes. The Nieuw Amsterdam will also have innovative spa staterooms with additional spa amenities. In the evening, the fun takes a glamorous turn with a wide selection of gourmet restaurants and exciting bars and lounges. Meet your whole group at the family-style Canaletto's Italian restaurant, sample the innovative pan-Asian cuisine at Tamarind, or just relax at the Silk Den Lounge, offering panoramic views. And when you’re looking for the height of style and gourmet cuisine, dine at the reservations-only Pinnacle Grill. After dinner raise a glass to your adventure in a wine bar, let it roll in the action-packed casino, or take in a Broadway-style revue in the Show Lounge.
