Century Emerald - Ship Review provided by Cruise Critic
First GlimpseThe 256-passenger, Yangtze River-based Viking Emerald debuted in summer 2011.
Standard accommodations provide an impressive 250 square feet of living space and all have private balconies. The ship also features a pair of 605-square-foot Explorer Suites with separate sitting and sleeping areas, two flat-screen televisions, panoramic windows and a private wrap-around balcony.
Dinner at Viking Emerald's restaurant is a nightly culinary event, during which passengers feast on a five-course gourmet menu with regional specialties designed by celebrity chef Martin Yan. Other onboard amenities include a small gym, sauna, massage services and beauty salon.
Entertainment is regionally focused, with experts lecturing about Terracotta Warriors or the Three Gorges Damn. Emerald's Yangtze River sailings include special immersive shore excursions, like the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe revue and a porcelain-making demonstration.
Cruises, which run from Beijing to Shanghai and reverse, are combined with land portions, including pre-cruise and post-cruise visits to Beijing, Shanghai and Tibet.
