The Bay of Naples once reached Via Santa Lucia the street that runs behind and parallel to Via Nazario Sauro where Hotel Miramare is located. The road along the sea changes its name along the way fromVia Caracciolo to Via Partenope and Via N. Sauro. Hotel Miramare is on the lungomare a street that was built over the natural sand in the late 19th century. Originally built as an aristocratic villa in 1914; it was transformed into a hotel in 1944 after it housed the American Consulate for a short time. It was once the only hotel in Naples as all the others had been damaged during WWII. After the war; newspaper articles and social columns about the numerous activities and events sponsored by Hotel Miramare making its name synonymous with the rebirth of Naples. Hotel Miramare was first known for its famous restaurant and piano bar; The Shaker Club which was open from the 1940s to mid the mid 80s. This was a very popular nightclub which attracted many celebrities; dignitaries and other top industrial leaders to the hotel. The appealing little hotel enjoys an excellent position on the waterfront between the S.Carlo Opera and Castel dell Ovo and is convenient for ferries; major sights and shopping areas. From the beautiful terrace of the hotel you can enjoy a healthy breakfast plus a spectacular view of the bay with Vesuvio; Sorrento Coast and Capri. Miramare guests can enjoy special attention also from the 2 nearby restaurants and 2 piano bar restaurants owned by the same family.
