The Essex Resort and Spa offers all the charm of a classic country resort, only minutes from the shops and dining of Burlington and the recreation of Vermont's Green Mountains. Set on 18 acres of Vermont countryside, the Inn's 120 rooms are each unique, and are decorated with superbly-crafted period reproduction furniture. Seasonally, enjoy the outdoor pool and gardens, or relax by the fire in the main lobby with warm cider and cookies, or in the library, warming your toes as you lounge with a great book. Many rooms feature fireplaces, kitchens or whirlpool baths.

Dining at the resort is always an event, with two restaurants staffed by the 188 chefs and students of the New England Culinary Institute. Butler's is renowned for gourmet fine dining on New American Cuisine, while the Tavern's casual American fare is a perennial favorite.

While it's hard to leave the comforts of the Inn behind, the attractions of Burlington are just minutes away. Tour Lake Champlain, visit the Shelburne Museum, the University of Vermont or shop in Burlington's charming pedestrian concourses. Both Waterbury, home to the Ben & Jerry's factory and Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and the four-season resort of Stowe are only a short drive. Resorts Smugglers' Notch, Sugarbush, Bolton Valley and three golf courses are also an easy trip from the resort. Shoppers interested in the bargains to be found at the Essex factory outlets will enjoy roving through stores like Brooks Brothers, the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and Polo Ralph Lauren.
