Overlooking Kailua Bay near the village of Kailua-Kona, the Royal Kona Resort is a three-tower hotel set on 12 acres of tropical gardens, and is approximately nine miles from Keahole-Kona International Airport. Local attractions include Captain Cook, approximately 12 miles away, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, located 88 miles from the resort.

Steps from the beach, the Royal Kona Resort features its own lagoon, perfect for snorkeling. The oceanfront pool is decorated with turtle murals, and a children's pool is also present. The Legends and Legacies Polynesian Luau is an energetic, beachfront dinner show at sunset, complete with music, fire-knife dancing, and authentic island cuisine. The Lotus Center Massage and Spa offers massages, beauty treatments, chiropractic care, and fitness courses. The Royal Kona Tennis Club contains four tennis courts, staffed with knowledgeable instructors. Shopping opportunities are also present at the resort. Parking is available for a fee. Dining options include the Pacific Rim cuisine at Don the Beachcomber, as well as drinks and live entertainment at Don's Mai Tai Bar.
