Horrible Service/ a 4**** lie

*took an hour to check in due to waiting in line *dirty common areas *never stay in the "annex" it a motel literally and it horribly dirty and stinky *the front desk don't like to tell the truth (if you ask them the differences between the annex and the main tower, they will lie about it) *the water view is not a real view, your really looking at a big wall *I had to switch rooms twice because the staff lied about what I would be getting. *the main tower has nice beds but the "annex" you can feel the springs in the bed.

Good Experience

The hotel was beautiful and clean. My room was upgraded free of charge; I reserved a room at the Annex; to a room that overlooked the water. Cafe was really cute, free coffee in the morning. Great experience, would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Yuk!

The pictures of this hotel is soooooo deceptive. I went to visit the hotel and was highly disappointed. There are two parts to this hotel...one bad and the other, even worse. I was told that they bought out an old Howard Johnson (need I say more?) and a Holiday Inn and combined them into one hotel. The ""renovation"" basically consisted of new bed linen and curtains. The bathrooms are dated and the carpet looks old and dirty. There are some bright spots.... the nightclub and spa are pretty nice. The roof-top pool is also kind of nice, but the furniture around it looks old. The restaurant on the ground floor looks like a joke.

Scammed...

Anonymous from Rutherford, NJ – Wouldn't stay again

This is going to be a very mixed review as I saw two very different sides to this hotel as I stayed in two different rooms. However I based all of my ratings on the first night we stayed as I feel that is appropriate to give you the best picture and it is what the hotel deserves. So The first night we arrive to the hotel and see a big new tower right above the main lobby that looked beautiful. After we checked in we were told to walk down a long hallway away from that nice tower to get to our room in another building. After a 10 minute elevator ride because they clearly had not updated those either, we arrive to our room to find a room that looked nothing like the pictures and essentially felt like a seedy motel room with a nice bed. The 19"" TV looked like it was from the 80's and the drawers were probably bought along with that TV in the same time period. The bathroom looked old and run down but they did put a new shower curtain on to try to make it look nicer. Nothing about that room was appealing to me in fact I have paid $ for rooms nicer than this one that cost me six times that! My girlfriend went as far as to say that the room ""depressed her"" and this was our anniversary. The next day we were checking into a different room with two bed as our two friends were joining us for that evening. When they tried to put us in another room down the hall that cost an additional $... I lost it. After much arguing with the front desk girl who apologized saying that the back hotel had not been fully renovated and they haven't put pictures up on the internet of the rooms. Then I escalated this to the manager, who continued to try to make me pay for an upgrade. After fully disclosing my disgust and dissatisfaction in his hotel and threatening to write the review I'm writing now he finally agreed to ""upgrade"" me at no additional cost to the ""luxe"" hotel (which is what you see pictures of) however they had no rooms with two queen beds as I paid for so the manager promised me that they would give me a queen sized roll away. After verifying 3 or 4 times that this bed would fit two grown adults we went to the new room, which was much nicer and exactly what I expected in the first place, but then up comes a twin sized roll away which clearly couldn't fit two people and the hotel attendant said this was the only size they had at the hotel. Back down to the front desk. Now I speak to a different manager and she said they had a cancelation on a room with two queen beds in the Luxe tower and they put us in that one. So after much headache and arguing we were finally in the room we paid for minus being scammed for the first night. My recommendation to you is do not stay in this hotel as it is over priced. Stay in another hotel and come hang out at The Chelsea's rooftop pool and fifth floor which was very nice. That is clearly where all the money went for renovations, unfortunately not to the other half of the rooms in the hotel. I feel I was robbed and for the price I paid for this hotel for two nights I could had a flight and hotel in Las Vegas for four nights at a hotel that far surpasses the quality of the hotel I just wasted my money on, actually there is no comparison between the two. Please rethink what you are about to do and avoid the nightmare I just went through.

The Chelsea = Luxe Tower + terrible Annex

Hun Y. from baltimore, MD – Wouldn't stay again

Most guests do not tell you that there are two completely different sections in The Chelsea. I'd like the potential guest of the chelsea to know what it will be like staying in the room in Annex. According to the chelsea's own description: ""Adjacent to The Chelsea and above Teplitkzy's, Stephen Starr's diner inspired restaurant, ""The Annex"" offers retro-motel style accommodations - updated with fresh new beds and sumptuous white bedding."" The rooms in Annex are literally those with new beds in a motel. Anyway, you can use the facilities in Luxe Tower. However, the room in Annex was so bad, I wasn't able to think of anything else. To be more specific, The hotel does not at all look like the pictures shown the hotel's web site. The bathroom is awful. Shower curtain smelled bad. Very weak water flow from shower head. The very small (17-19inch) TV was the worst with no menu, caption, payview functions. Tthere was not mini fridge. The worst part of all was the noise from the street. The window had almost no effect of blocking the traffic noise. The frequent sirens from ambulance and fire trucks startled me many times every night.. The closet was missing a door. The furniture was ugly-looking. Housekeeping service was not good. The maids while cleaning the rooms from 9AM made a lot of noises. Slapping noise of closing doors happened every minute. When I called front desk to complain of the noise, she at front desk readily knew and told me that it was from the room being cleaned. And I needed to call housekeeping to get bathroom supplies. The lobby at luxe tower looked alright. The street nearby is distance away from the main part. Avoid The Chelsea, or at least, the motel-like Annex.
