Good downtown location - good value for the money

Randy S. from Las Vegas, NV – Would stay again
Stayed Nov 2009, 2 days Most Recent Stay

I spent 2 nights at this hotel and found it to exceed my expectations. The room I ended up with was modern, clean, and the queen size bed was extremely comfortable. The room itself was small, but more than adequate for my needs. The shower in my room was one of those that had a glass wall that was supposed to keep water out, but it didn't have a door or curtain (by design) and the wall itself covered only half of the stall. So it looked really cool (just like the rest of the room) but I found that the water that escaped the stall ended up soaking the towel completely. As for the location, Horton Plaza (big shopping mall) is a 3 minute walk, the gaslamp district is maybe 5 minutes away. One thing that I didn't like is the lack of parking close to the hotel. Because of the downtown location, parking is at a premium, Valet is the way to go, but it's $* bucks a day for hotel guests (there are some pay lots located close by but I didn't bother to look) so keep that in mind if you are driving. Also, I ended up driving by the valet twice because I totally missed it. Oh yeah, there is a computer room with a printer with wifi access as well in the lobby. A big plus. However, I was on a desktop in the computer room and there was another guest using another computer as well. We both were booted off in the middle of doing what we were doing (I was responding to email) and the computers went into a continuous loop of rebooting. Kind of bizarre.

Good Location on Broadway

Matt H. from Minneapolis, MN – Would stay again
Stayed Oct 2009, 1 day

The room is a little bit small, so I would not travel here with kids unless you are getting them a separate room. That having been said, my wife and I very much enjoyed the comfortable accommodations and great location! Super beds, a small fridge to keep wine cold and a little microwave all fit inside the cozy room. The bathroom was also pretty small, but it served its purpose. San Diego is at the front door, everything is about a 10 minute walk away... and speaking of walks, the free walk-about tour on the weekend mornings was also a lot of fun. Thanks for a memorable trip!

Small room but outstanding otherwise

Anonymous from Hamden, CT – Would stay again
Stayed Sep 2009, 4 days

Stayed 4 nights in Sept 09, I cant say enough about the staff, they were all very frendly and the utmost of profesionals, Wonderful decor throughout the hotel, very clean and a great location. The room was on the smaller size but for a couple like us it was not really an issue. The restaurant, Currant, was top notch as well. The valet parking was a great convienence and worth the rate considering the parking can be an issue downtown.....I would happily stay at the Sofia again!

A Delightful Hotel

Alan G. from Rocky River, OH – Would stay again
Stayed Aug 2009, 4 days

Tired of staying at the usual hotels then discover the Sophia Hotel in the heart of San Diego, which was aa former Pickwick Hotel that has ben converted into a charming, delightful, botique hotel that is extroadinary. There was a gourment restaurant as well as an excecise room.. My only criticism was that there was no telephone number posted in case of questions or emergencies. The front desk was efficient and most courteous as well as the entire staff. As I had rented a car, the valet staff always welcomed me back in a manner that indicated they wanted my business. This hotel is a must for anyone staying in San Diego Gathered around the hotel walls, were photos indicating what the hotel and surrounding area looked like before being converted into a modern upscale establishment for travellers.
