beale st trip
arrived friday afternoon at the benchmark hotel, not what I was expecting.the hotel lobby is nice and the staff were very quick to take care of your needs, the manager was extremely nice and helpful, but from here is where it kind of went down hill.we paid $* dollars for the room but was then told that we would have to pay $15 dollars for the parking,we then got our keys to the room.the room was not worth the money, they really need to spend some time and money on upgrades, the bathroom was a joke to say it needed completely gutting was an understatement, the sink was chipped and the countertop was held on by a bunch of caulk, badly done may I say.If I had planned a little more I would have spent the extra and stayed at a better hotel. If you want to eat ribs at the rendezvous then this is it,beale st is about 3 blocks away and the ball ground is across the street.all in all I have travelled all over the united states and this would have to be a 2 out of 5,they could get a better review if they spent some money.hopefully this will help if you are ever in memphis and somewhere to stay.
Great Location
Recently we visited Memphis TN to enjoy baseball games between the Memphis Redbirds and the St Louis Cardinals. We stayed at the Benchmark Hotel Downtown Memphis. The location couldn't have been any better! Auto Zone Park is directely across the street. We were in Memphis for 3 days and the only time we drove our vehicle was to Graceland. Everything else is within walking distance. I couldn't count the variety of restaraunts and other attractions just blocks away. The infamous Beale St was just two blocks over. The hotel, however could use some sprucing up. It's just in an old building. The lobby is beautiful. But, the rooms could use some updating. The staff was wonderful. Anything we asked for was promptly made available. The worst thing was taking a cold shower on our first morning. But, I know the hotel was full that day and most everyone there was going to the same place at the same time. Will I stay there again? Maybe. I will check out the other hotels in the area first. Unless I hear that the Benchmark has done some updating. We had a fantastic time. We loved Memphis.
Not the Best!
This was a perfect location to get around town and to Beale St. It was ok if you are just going to be sleeing there. It was not by far the nicest. For the price it was a little to pricey to the hotel.
Moldy and smoky
While the location and the staff were wonderful here, the room wasn't. There was alot of mold in the bathroom and it wasn't clean when we got there. There was hair all over the floor. We also got a non-smoking room but the airconditioner must have blew in the smoke from a near by BBQ restrauant because the room reeked of charcoal smoke and by the time we left everything we brought smelled of charcoal too. This is not mentioned at booking but parking (when they have enough) is an extra $15.00/day.And never bring a car thats low to the ground because it would drag getting it down the incline into the parking area.
worst hotel anywhere
This was the worst hotel that we have ever stayed in. First of all there was no remaining parking on the property which we had been promised secured parking. Memphis is a very dangerous place and we had to park our car several blocks away in 20 degree weather. The staff was very unapologetic. This also caused us to be late to the concert that we came for. The room was dirty, especially the bathroom (hair everywhere). There was carpet torn out in the corner of the room. Please do yourself a favor and pay a little extra and stay anywhere else but this dump!
