Pictures can be deceiving

Richard P. from Springboro, OH – Wouldn't stay again
Stayed Jun 2009, 3 days Most Recent Stay

I spent 3 nights at the Galeria Plaza Hotel in Mexico City. The pictures posted on online travel website look much better than the what the Hotel really looks like. The pictures posted must have been from when the Hotel was brand new - like 100 years ago!!!. My reservation included the continental breakfast but the waiter insisted that it did not. It took me getting up and going to the front desk to clear up the misunderstanding - just a small inconvenience I'd rather not deal with. Rooms are very small and not glamorous at all. TV reception is poor - I kept flipping through the 12 channels they get over and over and the most intersting show was CNN News (thank God for CNN). Their ""Queen Size Bed"" seemed more like a ""double"" to me - Very small. On the plus side, the Hotel is centrally located making it easy to get around, but unfortunately it is not in the best area. Hotel employees are VERY NICE and polite. In my opinion - I would stay at this Hotel again ONLY if I got a VERY GOOD DEAL - say *USD per night or less.

Spring break week '09

Curtis C. from Mesquite, TX – Would stay again
Stayed Mar 2009, 7 days

My wife and I, two Texas teachers on spring break, and my cousin and her husband from Kansas, two retired ""medicos."" spent a week here seeing all the wonderful sights in Mexico City. Excellent location and excellent staff made this a great experience. We were all located on the Reforma side of the hotel with great views of ""El Angel."" The Hamburgo side might have been nosier but since we were on the western edge of the Zona Rosa we didn't experience any late night noise, etc. Easy access to Chapultepec Park and the various public transportation choices.

2 New Yorkers enjoyed stay

Anonymous from New York, NY – Would stay again
Stayed Jan 2009, 5 days

We visited Mexico City for 1 week arriving 1/31/2009. The hotel lived up to all our expectations. Prior to booking my stay through travel website I had conducted extensive research on what part of city to stay and a hotel in that area. We wanted to stay in the Zona Rosa at a nice central hotel. We were pleased once we arrived at the hotel. The registration was very fast and smooth. We visited the concierge after settling in and they were extremely helpful in orientating us and suggesting where we could dine for dinner, even offering to help us in getting tickets to the Balet Folkclorico and other excursions. We quickly realized how central we really were at only 1 block from the Monument to Independence, we even had a view of the top of it from our room. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to the Metro stop ""Insurgentes"" and in the center of night life and everything else you want. The Zona Rosa was safe and lively. I ignored what other websites and visitors were saying about this area as ""worried and very picky-white gloved tourists"" We had a wonderful time at the restaurants and bar/clubs in the area. We walked many mornings across Paseo de la Reforma to Sanborns for breakfast. With all the dining options in the area and other parts of the city we never dined at the hotel. Well, that's about it. Hope you enjoy your stay at this hotel. We will definitely be back!

Good location, clean room and friendly staff

Anonymous from Jersey city, NJ – Would stay again
Stayed Dec 2008, 4 days

This hotel is in a great location near the Reforma avenue. There are a good number of restaurants and bars within the walking distance. There is a metro station a few blocks away. It's a lot cheaper to get around than taking taxis everywhere. There are banks nearby that you can go to for exchanging money. We used the Banamex around the corner and got a good rate. The hotel staff was very friendly. The concierge desk was very helpful. We took a tour to the pyramids from the hotel and it was a great experience. The tour guide was excellent.

Galeria Plaza Hotel

Anonymous from San Francisco, CA – Would stay again
Stayed Dec 2008, 8 days

This hotel is nicely located in the Zona Rosa and is convienient to many restaurants in the area. The staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions you may have. The rooms are of a nice size and comfortable; however, there is not enough room lights to be able to read anything except when you are lying on the bed and using the night stand light. The bathroom was very nice but again there was not enough lighting so that you ended up taking you shower basically in the near dark. Even with these shortcomings, I would stay here again on my next trip to Mexico City since the price, service, and charm of the area is great.
