lovely inn
The inn is right on the Main Street in downtown Stowe, and it is so quaint. I feel like I am stepping back in time when I walk in the front door. The inn has added on quite a number of rooms, so the likelihood of staying in the old, original inn is slim, but the overal experience is still the same. Everyone who works for the inn is friendly and helpful. The Whip Restaurant has wonderful food and a very cozy atmosphere. My husband and I were able to upgrade our room from a standard to deluxe, which gave us a gas fireplace in the room. The hotel is convenient to the ski area, within about 15 minutes, and to other activities. The hotel is also very clean, and I would highly recommend the inn.
The Green Mountain Inn
WE relly enjoyed our stay. The food and exspecially the drinks were excellant(great bartender!) We really enjoyed the outdoor pool and the hot tub after sking. I would request a room towards the back our room was noisy in the early am. Overall a great trip!
Will definitely return!
For a first time trip to Vermont I must admit I fell in LOVE with this hotel and surrounding town. My boyfriend and I stayed in a luxury room in the Mansfield House. Our room was exquisite with a beautiful 4 poster bed, fireplace and jacuzzi. The cd player was a nice feature and the classical music cd(left by hotel) set a relaxing mood. We didn't go for skiing but there's a free bus that takes you up to Stowe Mountain (many restaurants and gift shops along the way). The mountain views are breathe-taking! I was a bit disappointed that the heated pool was closed and our fireplace didn't work the first night, but it was quickly fixed the next day. House keeping was wonderful-not the usual constant knocking at odd hours. The food at the WhipGrill was delicious. The gas station mart was very convinient for late night snacks since everything closes fairly early. The deli next store served affordable breakfast and lunch with great coffee. Everyone we met were kind and helpful. Cars even stopped for us to cross the street, which is rare for a city girl like myself to see. It was so refreshing to experience a town where friendly, kind-hearted people still exists. We will defintely stay here again and again.

Charge it to the room
Upon check-in the desk clerk asked for a credit card for "incidentals". After the second day I realized the hotel put a $150 hold on the card. When I questioned why I wasn't told this at check-in I didn't get an acceptable response but the lady was nice enough about it. I charged everything to the room for the remainder of the trip, instead of coming out of pocket. - Type:GettingAround Distance: Requires transportation

you may want to rent a car
The ride to the hotel and back was 45 minutes each way. Thankfully our awesome taxidriver, Jessica, was able to take us to and from the hotel. If we stayed for more than 3 days we would've rented a car to get around to see more sites.
Fantastic hotel!
I had a wonderful stay at the Green Mountain Inn. It feels like a cozy inn, yet has all of the amenities of a full service hotel. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. I particularly enjoyed their restaurant "The Whip". It was by far one of the most affordable options in the area, adn the food was great!

onsite restaurant a great value
The restaurants in the area can be really pricey. The onsite restaurant was a great value.
Stowe for Romance!
We've stayed at several hotels in Stowe over the last three years - we always spend our anniversary there. By far, our favorite is the Green Mountain Inn. Not only is it gorgeous, but the food is incredible, it's right in the middle of town so plenty of things are within walking distance, and the staff are all lovely, polite, and accomodating. We have decided we're done trying other hotels in the area, the Green Mountain Inn is the best for us. Highly recommend it!

The Malt Shoppe
Right next to the Green Mountain Inn is the Malt Shoppe. Right out of the 50s, this place is great! It's tiny, so get there early.. but the last time we were in Stowe, my husband kept dragging us back there for EVERY lunch. The homemade soup was incredible, and my sandwich was made with freshly baked bread. Pretty hard to beat. Though my husband's weakness were the chocolate malts. He'd never had one before, and now he's addicted.
