Better Than Expected
After checking out 2 other hotels in the area prior to finding the Bellissimo Grande we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel lobby and rooms were beautifully decorated, and very clean. The staff was very pleasant and the rates were great. my only complaint is that there was to much chlorine in the pool and it was burning my eyes and I wasnt even in the water.
Go for the day spa; definitely not the food
The hotel's theme is an Italian villa. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. They claim to have a restuarant; a bistro. The bistro is actually a few tables in an area of the lobby; we couldn't actually figure out where the kitchen was. For the wait to actually get food we think their is no onsite kitchen; they're ordering take-out. There is a spa and this was the saving grace of the hotel. The spa is actually a separate business renting space but, they're in the hotel. The owner and staff of the spa are fantastic! Spend a night at the hotel just so you can be pampered at the spa.
Too many bad things, owner offer to resolve differences unsatisfactory
After I booked our room directly through the hotel, we arrived at the hotel and looked at the room. It was the lowest priced room when we booked for the highest level room which including the soaking tub and fireplace which is the sole difference between the rooms. First we were told we booked at the lowest price room and they were not sure they could move us to the highest price room. Eventually they called the GM who okayed the change. I?m glad as the first room had ripped carpeting. We asked not to be near the elevator. Despite that, we were assured we would not be next to the elevator but it was the room right next to the elevator. This was changed upon a further request. Despite at least 3 different remote controls with different batteries over 3 days, we were told it was our tv that had the problem that the volume down and channel changing up and down only made the volume louder. You had to be within 3 feet of the tv to actually have the remote work correctly. We just could not change rooms again even though that offer was never made. The limo only works if there is enough guests or their driver does not call in sick. Twice we went to Foxwoods by their van. Yes it?s transportation, but it is definitely not the limo you see in their pictures. We were also told at 5 p.m. on Friday the chef would be in until 1:00 a.m. We came back from Foxwoods and ordered dinner at 12:10 a.m. only to be told the chef left at midnight and we could not order from the dinner menu. Waitress does hair in bar. owner offered to fire employee quoting price, spa was closed.
Great Place
The location is perfect. Mystic and all it has to offer and the casinos. Limo to Foxwoods is first class and fun I just wish it would run a little later during the week. Because the room rates are so wonderful during the week that's a great time to go. The restaurant was very good and the service throughout the hotel is wonderful. Very nice and accomodating. We've stayed in the room with the tub and this time without and both very nice.
Poor Customer Service and no suite
I don't know what most people think of when they book a suite versus a room. I was expecting a sitting room separate from the bedroom, maybe a microwave/mini kitchen area, etc. What I got was a room - nothing special, a room like I would get in a Holiday Inn or Ramada. There was nothing wrong with the room. It was clean and nice enough - just not what I expected. OK - I accepted the room as a suite and settled in. After visiting friends about an hour away, and arriving back at the hotel around 8:00, I checked out the room service menu. It was extremely limited but I thought, no problem, I'll go to the Bistro and order something to go. When I walked in, I was totally ignored. I finally approached the bartender and asked if I could order something to go. He told me they were too busy and I should try again in an hour. As another employee hurried past, he asked him if they could do a to-go order. This man also said no way and said it would be at least an hour and a half. I retreated to my room (not a suite) and called the front desk to ask if there were snack machines anywhere in the building. I was told no but that she might be able to dig through her desk and find some crackers. I rejected that offer. I would have run out and picked up something locally, but other than the casino, there isn't anything. I finally decided to call room service but got the front desk again. Room service was too busy to take orders or calls. I was told to call back at 10:00. At 10:45, I finally got food.
