This is a beautiful hotel in a prime location that, unfortunately, is in poor condition. Renovations are currently happening and we requested a newly renovated room. The room given us was very disappointing. It was dark with only one small window which looked out at an interior roof with three dead potted plants. It was a closed off shaft so small that there was no sky to be seen. We requested a different room and the staff was very accommodating. The second room had large french windows opening to a balcony with a view of the hotel's front fountain. This was a huge improvement over the first room except for the fact that the room was run down. There was an iron burn in the carpeting, the bathroom door couldn't be closed because it didn't fit inside the door frame, the sink stopper was broken so I had to cover it with a towel to put my contacts on, the hair dryer provided was like a vacuum hose coming out of the wall, and the sole outlet in the bathroom would only accommodate electric shavers. I would have used my curling iron at a bedroom mirror except there was none. But with the room's condition aside, the dining room/bar is gorgeous, the food was good, and we did have a wonderful time.

Everything was perfect!

Pros: The view, comfortable room, and location.
Location: Location puts you in the center of town. Also, lots of trams and bus stops within a block of hotel.
The room was large and very comfortable! The bay window gave us a beautiful view of the canal. We loved opening the window and drinking our morning coffee in the comfortable arm chairs. The staff was so helpful, and David, the concierge, booked several trips for us. The location was so convenient to all public transport. We stayed here for two weeks, and it started to feel like home!

Great location.

Pros: Rooms were nice and very helpfull staff.
Location: Close to tram line. Rijks and VanGogh museum are close.
We were given a room upgrade and free breakfast one morning due to construction outside.

Pros: Location. Historic architecture. Period details throughout.
Cons: Do not have hotel staff vacuum around a guest in dining room eating breakfast. Very awkward; he actually asked me to remove my purse .
Location: Across the canal from all museums of importance. Night life and many restaurants nearby.
Unfortunately dining room with historic art deco features ruined by the addition of unsightly lighting more suited to a disco.

construction zone

Pros: leaving
Cons: staffing and amenities...decor could be updated too. the locaction is not well lit and the surrounding area is a bit "dicey' to say the least
Location: the location is obscured by the massive construction that shuts down the whole area...uber car had to do pick up a few blocks away from hotel entrance
if the room i prepaid for was inferior, then why was it sold to me? ...classic bait and switch...on check in, before anything else an offer to Upgrade the room for 30 euro per night and have a nice room. the rooms have been redone many times and not that well...dropped ceiling to hide base building requirements...lighting and sprinklers would look better if the room windows were adjusted for their height

A Great Hotel

Pros: Everything
Cons: Figure out a way to get the curtains behind the radiators so the room stays warm
Location: It was right in the middle of the city very close to all the great museums. We were able to walk to the museums from where we stayed.
The room we had was bigger than our living room at home and we really loved it. The maid service was great and all the staff were amazing. My only complaint was the heat in the room, once you closed the curtains to go to sleep the radiators were covered so it go pretty cold in the room at night. No matter what we really enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again if we ever get a chance to go back to Amsterdam.

Classic Hotel in Nice Location

Pros: Location is ideal. The service is good. It has an outstanding restaurant.
Cons: My room was a little small. It featured a double bed, though I was traveling alone. It might be a little confining for a couple.
Location: The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are nearby. Canal boats offer tours next to the hotel. A variety of restaurants and cafes nearby.
This hotel is located within an interesting historic building. It is one of those classic, turn-of-the century hotels, which has been modernized. It is set in great location near parks, museums, restaurants, bars and shops--a great location for exploring Amsterdam. Public transportation is excellent with a choice of trams, canal boats, and a shuttle bus direct to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport just across the street from the hotel. This hotel has an excellent restaurant with a great menu, décor and ambience plus very good service. I used it several times because I found it superior to the touristic restaurants near the hotel. My only disappointment in this hotel was that I found my room to be a little small. Apart from that, I would certainly recommend it.
