Summer Hikes and Cookouts and Hocking Hills Getaway in our Historic Comfy Home

Built in 1895, our 2100sq ft single family home is warm and comfy for an overnight or weekend stay located in the Arts Historic District of Nelsonville and close to Ohio University, Stuart's Opera House, Hocking College and the Nelsonville Music Festival are close by. You rent our entire newly renovated home giving you central cooling, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an additional full/queen air mattress, a fully equipped chef's kitchen stocked with Hershey's and Ghirardelli cocoa great for hot chocolate as well as Starbucks coffee beans for a fresh roasted coffee. The well-dressed dining room is perfect for family gatherings as well as a large front porch, a great living room, den with tv and wifi and google home--Just say, "Hey Google...", a huge deck for stargazing and cooking out, a gas grill and a therapeutic hot tub on a covered porch. This home is fully furnished and is situated next to the Wayne Forest, golf courses and minutes from Lake Hope State Park in Zaleski State Forest. You will find miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking and Lake Hope is perfect for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking and swimming. The entire home is yours to enjoy. We will be close by, but not in the house with you.The NeighborhoodNelsonville, Ohio was settled by a man with the last name of Nelson from Shrewsbury, MA. The house is in the heart of Nelsonville's Public Square which is blocks from the thriving and bustling offerings like: Stuart's Opera House, Rhapsody Restaurant, Fullbrooks Cafe and Coffee Shop, the Mine Tavern (with pub food offerings), a local Bakery, The Emporium gift boutique, a few art galleries, hair salon, drug store and more. The town has the feel of a New England hamlet with a deep history of Appalachian culture, mining, and the industrial revolution.Getting AroundRhapsody Restaurant is very affordable offering delicious food prepared by a culinary program and has a full bar and diverse selection of wines. It is in walking distance to the house and next to the Stuart's Opera House. Ohio University and the Hocking Hills caves/trails are within 15-25 minutes of the house. You are centrally located to enjoy all this area has to offer!Small snacks are available for you during your stay.House RulesWe are a professional family and looking to share our home with similar. There's no smoking in our home. This is an in-town home within a diverse residential Appalachian neighborhood. Quiet hours are between 10PM-8AM on weekdays, and 11:30PM-9AM on weekends. Please be aware this is a neighborhood and sound travels well. Also, please do not exceed the amount of guests decided on during your stay. The house sleeps 6 (the charge is for 3 persons with an additional fee for more than 3 up to 6). We will be close by but not in the house with you.The house is fully insulated from top to bottom and the roof is made of the original slate tile. To ensure your safety and comfort we offer a person-less entry and ask that you respect the check-in time so that our housekeeper can best prepare the home for your visit. For those that have sensitivities to allergies (as I do):Because this is an older home, all walls in the house have brand new paint, all carpet has been removed (other than area rugs) from the main house and hard-woods refinished. There are hypoallergenic pillows on all the beds. The bedding is designer and covered with down-alternative bedspreads. You will find this home comfy and unique nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and culture.

An Oasis
We were just incredibly pleased with not only the home and location but specifically all of the lovely added touches from our host. Nathan went above and beyond to make sure that every aspect of our stay was delightful : from leaving snacks, and fresh Danish to filling every room with fresh flowers and setting the table for us !! The home was charming and spacious with all of the amenities that one might need. This was especially true for a COVID vacation. We hiked and spent the remainder of our time cooking, soaking in the hot tub, reading and playing games. I would absolutely stay at this property again.

5/5 Excellent

Very cute house, close to stores, and short drive to Hocking Hills State Park
Nathan put out fresh flowers and a ton of snacks for our arrival, it was such a nice bonus. The house was super clean and had everything we needed for cooking at home: pots/pans, seasonings, glassware, etc. The decor in the house is really cute and you can tell the owners have really tried to make it a nice spot :) The patio/backyard is surrounded by a high wooden fence which is nice for privacy. The hot tub couldn’t have been better. It was very spacious and also surrounded by sheer curtains which made it feel private too.... Thank you Nathan for such a fun weekend!

Great Home & Location
The home was pristine and the location accessible for enjoying Athens and the hocking hills area. Our stay was seamless and the host's communication top notch. He filled the fridge and kitchen with complimentary goodies, which made us feel comfortable and right at home during our stay. Would definitely book again!

5/5 Excellent

Amazing place!
The place was amazing! would highly recommend it!

4/5 Good

Short getaway
The house itself is immaculate. The neighborhood and surrounding houses, not so much. The neighbors dogs barked at all hours of the day and night. Communication with Nathan was great! He was very responsive when we had an issue with the hot tub. I do wish the description had been changed to make us aware the coffee shop and one of the restaurants were temporarily closed. Those factors were big in making our final decision and I was disappointed when we walked to town the first day they were closed.
