The beds are hard, just a little bit better than the floor. I contemplated sleeping in my truck. The Keurig was dirty inside the water reservoir, I didn't use it. The walls were bare except for blueprints of the building over the beds. The room and building smelled musty. The family I was visiting remarked I smelled the same after checking in and dropping off my luggage in the room.

The room smelled awful. It was musky and damp. Curtains were damp and bedding was damp. Coffee pot was corroded with black grime where you put your water. Don't know how we ended up in an outside cottage. Front desk clerk was going to move us to another room but when we looked at it, there was no mattress in there...SMH

We were in one of the separate units and it was charming. The breakfast was a little light on substance. I was a little surprised that there wasn’t more fresh fruit selection, or some healthier choices, especially since this is. “Spa” resort. The internet didn’t seem to work in our room either. But those are small things compared to the quality of the bed and shower and other needs. Overall I was satisfied and happy with the cost

We liked the Inn very much. We thought we were staying in the Inn. We were in a separate building nearby. You had to walk up a hill to the Inn to get ice or to have the continental breakfast. In our building we had to carry our luggage up stairs. We are seniors. No one offered any help . Our room was nice, but not suitable for seniors. We were afraid we would fall in the tub showers as no railing or rubber mat. We asked for one but they do not have them. Just gave us an extra towel to put in tub.

false representation and the misinformed concierge

Pros: view at hotel restaurant
Cons: Consistency with knowledge of front desk staff!
After purchasing a room on Travelocity I called the hotel to follow up on the amenities. I was told by the front desk representative that I had "one of the nicest rooms in the hotel with a fireplace and private balcony." Upon check in, we arrived at a room without a view, no fireplace, or balcony. Under normal circumstances it would not have been a big deal, however; we centered our New Years Eve plans around the accommodations we were told we would have. When I followed up with the representative upon arrival she simply told me I was misinformed and offered no accommodations or even an apology. My husband and I have had a rough holiday season with my father being sick and this was supposed to be a romantic getaway and the highlight of our holiday. It surely was not with the false representation and the misinformed concierge. Just disappointing.

The location of the Inn is very special with a 180 degree view of the Blue Ridge Mtns, including Grandfather. We were warmly greeted on the evening of our arrival. We were disappointed that our room wasn't in the actual Inn, but in one the cottages a few steps across the parking lot. The room was clean and nicely, but sparsely appointed --- and it was very quiet. Also, I didn't notice that the restaurant (in the Travelocity info) wasn't open on Monday evenings (our one night stay) so we were directed back to Blowing Rock (10 minutes away) and we had a nice dinner and got back in time for the beautiful sunset (the Inn faces west). The simple hot and cold breakfast buffet, laid out at 7am, was wonderful and quite impressive with a panorama of the mountains. We plan to go back next fall, but on a night when "The Table" restaurant is open. The Inn was originally the home of a well known Yale trained architect and the family expanded it and opened it as an in in 2004. We enjoyed learning the history and seeing all the framed architectural drawings around the Inn. Our room was furnished with prairie style furniture.
