How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Silicon Valley

Make your trip to Silicon Valley a little bit easier by reading over these helpful tips and pointers:

  • Be sure you know the whereabouts of your passport and boarding pass. You don't want to hold up the line when you're asked to produce them.
  • Coins, belts and mobile phones should be put in a tray for X-raying. If you enter the body scanner with any one of these items, you'll be instructed to turn back and remove them.
  • Laptops, digital cameras and other electronic devices must be placed in separate bins to be X-rayed.
  • When you approach the security checkpoint, you'll be asked to place all liquids, gels and creams in a separate bin for scanning. Make sure they're all packed in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and sealed in a clear zip-lock bag.
  • Loosen your shoelaces before approaching the body scanner. Depending on what type of shoes you've got on, security may ask you to take them off.
  • Some countries have stringent biosecurity laws. Consider where you're journeying to and whether or not you're allowed to fly with fruit and meats.
