HURRICANE DORIAN UPDATE; November 25, 2019: We just returned from a week in Abaco to assess, for ourselves, conditions of our house and the area before opening to rentals again. Here’s what we found out: * Our house sustained no damage. After debris clean-up, the Casuarina Point neighborhood is the same as before with the exception of some roof damage on a few houses. * Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Marsh Harbour. Our hearts go out to those who have lost so much. It’s difficult to describe how extensive the damage is after seeing it for ourselves. The clean-up and restoration of Marsh Harbour will be a long and arduous process. * Currently, Marsh Harbour airport is open to domestic flights. We found it easy to connect through Nassau airport. Western and Bahamaair are offering multiple daily flights. Work is progressing to open the airport to international flights; perhaps as early as December. NOTE: As of December 13th, it's our understanding that international flights into MHH have begun. * The town’s largest grocery store, Maxwell’s, reopened and is well stocked. A liquor store is scheduled to open soon. We saw no other retail shopping in Marsh Harbour. * There are limited car rental options currently available. For $50, our new property managers, Jason and Katrinka, will pick you up at the airport, take you to Maxwell’s to get provisions and delver your group to the house. The return trip to the airport is also $50 per group. For those who want to venture outside of the Casuarina Point neighborhood, they have a SUV to rent for the day for $65. * If you choose to rent our Whaler, you can boat across the Sound to the town of Cherokee. There’s a small grocery there with basic provisions ( though no alcohol). * Restaurant options are quite limited. Pete’s Pub in Little Harbour is open. It’s about a 20 minute drive to this popular beach front restaurant/ bar. Forty miles south, in Sandy Point, are a few more restaurants. We’re reopening for rentals beginning December 7th. Based on our experience, we believe people can safely and conveniently travel to Abaco and we invite you to consider staying at Tortuga Point house. Donna and Fred Welcome to your tropical retreat! Stylish and comfortable, Tortuga Point House was completed in 2009. Catch the island breeze out on the open deck while basking in the warm sun and enjoying an unencumbered panoramic view of Cherokee Sound. The house is at the end of the lane, set away from the bustle of Marsh Harbour but not too far from its amenities, it is perfect for that peaceful island vacation! WALK TO THE BEACH! The 8 mile white sand beach of Casuarina Point is only a 7-10 minute walk down two sandy streets, about the equivalent of two city blocks. You can reach the beach even faster by kayak or boat!
