Location location location. That's the good news. Staff is always wonderful. We have stayed multiple times. Room this visit was smaller than expected. Curtains seemed to be dingy and were threadbare and torn. The bathroom fan was incredibly loud--must need new bearing.

I have Been to this hotel several times.. and have enjoyed it each time, staff is friendly and helpful.. location and rate is great.. my only thumbs down is I wish It had a refrigerator,. My traveling partner needed to store meds and had to keep it on ice, we ordered from downstairs...but other than that,.. would definitely stay again.

Older historic hotel that was first class in the past but has not been maintained. Lobby and restaurant areas are very nice, but rooms are very outdated and in need of painting and thorough cleaning.

I like the old fashion look. My husband and I found that the room appeared to be dusty and curtains were torn. Upkeep needs to be improved. Also, there was no complimentary water or tea, surprising due to the cost of the room. Also there was no microwave or refridgerator in the room, room service had carried a microwave to us and put it on the desk to use. We thought that was strange. We ordered room service that was pretty pricey and the food did not look good at all, we sent the food away. It's likely if we return to chicago we will not stay here. But the staff seemed friendly. The location is great. Close to restaurants and main attractions.

Strengths: Great location, hotel was clean, staff were friendly, can walk to from the El train There really wasn't anything to complain about during my stay.I think the only “complaint” that I have is that the walls are a little thin. By this I mean that you can hear your neighbors flushing the toilet but you can’t hear them talking, watching tv, etc. I am a fairly light sleeper and it did not bother me at night. You can also hear the traffic noise in the morning but not before 8am. I think if you’re an average traveler who is looking for a great place to stay this is a great hotel for you. There are some small appearance things (small elevators, paint chipping, slightly out of date decor) that you may notice but nothing to do with your overall stay. Additionally (and I’m just adding this as a comment because it may effect some people) the handles in the bathroom are very slippery especially when wet which could cause problems for anyone with any motor problems in the hands. We would definitely consider coming back next time we are in Chicago. Thanks Whitehall Hotel!
