It was a nice quiet stay. My only complaint was I was in a dead zone for cell phone service and complementary WiFi was not stable so hard to check maps.

Sooooo close to Garden of the gods, my bf and I walked the lower half in a few hours and just loved it. Super close walking distance to food and drinks. Construction wasn’t a bother whatsoever. I envy these hotel owners, what a great place! We loved it so much here. Wish we could have stayed longer! Best place ever!!!

The Buffalo Lodge is fabulous! It is a work in progress - the entire property has not yet been completely redone. However, the parts one uses - room, lobby, outdoor areas - are all wonderful. It is like a boutique hotel at regular hotel prices. The staff is warm and friendly. The lobby is so welcoming with cool decor, unique art pieces, a fun bar and plenty of games and fantastic chess board. It you are a cyclist, look no further. Organized rides leave the property several times a week. If you are not a cyclist, you will still be sure to enjoy the friendly and warm atmosphere. And, the proximity to The Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak could not be better!! All the best to the family who owns the Buffalo Lodge - our stay will be forever memorable!

Quaint motel trying hard, but just not there...yet
Cons:If trying to be a bike resort, integrate better with a local bike outfitter, or at least be ready to respond to biking questions from a non-local.
The Buffalo Lodge is trying to do quite a few things, but they don't quite have everything down pat yet. Based on how well they've done with what they have, I actually believe they actually want to, and will improve as time goes on. I'll check in on them in a few years, but until then...
Their staff were really friendly, and we liked the rustic feel of the property. The property is being updated, so the basic amenities were all there. My 2 largest complaints about staying here was the wifi was horrible, and the heaters were LOUD. The rooms insulation meant that we required the heaters to remain on all night with the overnight temperatures in the 30s. Throwing in a third complaint which is common of older motels, electrical outlets in the room are sparse, with the only free outlets in our room being 1 behind the fridge, and 2 at the sink.
As for the bicycle lodge aspect of the Buffalo Lodge, my wife and I are confused. What I saw was a desire to make this a hub for local bicyclists, but this did not feel very guest focused. I had asked about bike rentals after the desk clerks mentioned a weekend biking event, only to be told they didn't have any bikes for rent, along with a feeling of trying to talk us out of cycling. (The reason being elevation, which may be legitimate if I didn't live in Denver, and started my first century a few miles away from this hotel).

I think you misunderstood us, we weren't trying to discourage you from riding. If I remember correctly you and your wife asked about using our free loaner single speed cruisers to ride through Garden of the Gods which has nearly 1,000 ft of elevation gain. We weren't trying to say you weren't fit for riding here, but our bikes weren't meant for that type of riding. We don't rent bikes, we'd rather refer to and support local shops who are better suited to meet the vast variety of bicycling types and sizes and the maintenance needed for rental. Our list of recommended bike shops can be found on our website and on a recommends list available to and usually given to guests who inquire in the lodge.
We were gearing up during the time you stayed to host a park and ride from our lodge to the local Coffin Races, lead two group rides from our hotel and we were hosting yoga and brews for cyclists.
I believe we asked if you'd prefer one of our newly renovated bicycle-themed suites which are fully upgraded and just $10 - $15 more a night. We are on our 10th renovation out of 47 rooms. They're fully upgraded and modern. The other rooms like the one you chose are great, just older.
You are right, we are not there yet, but I think we're a lot farther along than you gave us credit for.

Look Elsewhere!
Cons:EVERYTHING!
Location:Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Canyon open spaces, Manitou Incline, Pikes Peak.
Staff was nice but based on other reviewers I had higher expectations. The floor was dirty and stained making me afraid to walk around barefoot. The bed badly sagged. The whole toilet moved when I sat on it (I weigh the 120lbs0), and there was a bug crawling around when I left.
Thank goodness it was for only one night!

Location:Just outside of Manitou Springs with easy access to highways, the stores and the sights.
Just a basic room but comfortable bed and VERY quiet. Great location and easy access. I felt safe the whole time I was there, too. Very helpful folks as well.

Some rooms have coffee makers and we have extras on hand for guests who request, but we are planning to get them for all the rooms. We do love when guests come to the Lodge and join us for coffee and breakfast and hope we don't loose that when all the rooms have pots. ;)
