Security door was malfunctioning. Missing door handle for days. Couldn't get in at night with key. Had to get clerk to open door several times. Each time clerk blamed me and one time she never came to door even though I called front desk. Even had the Call Center try, but she never showed at desk. By that time several other customers were locked out of hotel. Luckily, someone came with a key that worked so we could get in!

NOISY

Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Staff, update rooms, fix broken and cracked drywall spots, appreciation of guests...
The front desk lady was very impersonable. I arrived at 11:30 at night and until 3:30am kids were running down the halls, yelling, fighting and screaming. The front desk only called them once to tell them to quiet down. needless to say, I slept an hour total that night on and off. There was also no shampoo in the shower to use. VERY DISSAPOINTED. Overall cleanliness was good, just out dated.

Unclean and unprofessional

Pros: I did not like anything about this hotel.
Cons: The level of professionalism needs to be improved. Asap
Location: I'm not familiar with the area.
Me and my husband reserved a room here (Extended Stay America Detroit-Southfield on American Drive) for 2 nights. We checked in and then went out for a few hours. When we returned to our room, it smelled like a sewer and the toilet was broken and running continuously, it would not stop making noises. We asked to be moved to a different room so the front desk moved us across the hall. The new room had been used: there was a pair of underwear hanging in the bathroom, a rubberband containing hair on the kitchenette counter, contents in the trashcan, and the pillows were not in order. So we called the front desk again and said that we are checking out because the room is unacceptable. We were informed that we could not get a refund and the woman at the front desk was beyond rude! Not one time did she apologize for the dirty room and how we had been inconvenienced; she had an attitude as if it was our fault that we had an awful experience. She told us that we had to wait for a manager to issue a refund and a manager would not be there until the next morning. Not one time did anyone try to make us happy. No one offered to fix the toilet, no one offered to clean the room so we'd be comfortable. I'll NEVER make another reservation at this hotel. Our experience was horrible! I hope they improve their standards and learn how to properly train their staff.

The Hard Times Hotel

Pros: very inexpensive, school bus service for families
Cons: Noisy, more like a tenement than a hotel
I've stayed at many Extended Stay hotels all over the country and have watched the quality steeply decline. These hotels used to be ideal for project work when workers would need a clean comfortable place to stay for 7-30 days. Unfortunately the recession has virtually eliminated that demographic so the hotels have taken aggressive steps to keep the properties full. They advertise on Craigslist as a place for cheap housing, and have turned into slumlords. There are many 'guests' at the hotel that are there because they have no place else to go. Broken cars, loud guests, domestic disputes, and poor maintenance have become the norm. There are a lot of families with kids living in the tiny rooms and the school bus comes by twice per day. My current stay is for 16 days and I'm counting the seconds until I can leave on Thursday. Loud music is filling the halls and some of the noisy guest from the 2nd floor have migrated to my floor and are drunk & noisy (again). I get to listen to their choice of music, slamming doors, and arguments over banalities. A few nights ago, one of their kids pulled the fire alarm. If you're looking for a cheap room in a tenement, and can live with extremely noisy neighbors, check it out. If you actually want a hotel room, look elsewhere.
