The property is very nice and is in a quiet, residential area of the outer city. I was a little worried about the commute in and out every day but there is a bus stop just outside the property where bus 25b will take you right into the heart of the Dublin in about 45 minutes. We didn't stay in the actual old building but in a more recent addition to the side, however, the room felt like a refurbished castle room with the furniture and ambiance. The full Irish breakfast in the morning was also good.

My daughter and I stayed three nights and it was wonderful! The staff were very helpful in telling us how to catch the bus just outside the hotel grounds to go to the city center. It is very inexpensive and much better than driving our car into town and dealing with parking and costs there. The room was very clean and comfortable. We were booked for two twin beds but instead we got a room with a queen bed which we were very pleased with. A wonderful full Irish breakfast was served every morning and was delicious. The grounds surrounding the hotel are beautiful!

Botched promise

For a property with so much promise (and moderately expensive cost), Finnstown was a real disappointment. Despite the classy looking manor house featured on its prospectus, most visitors—like my family—will be sent to one of the less classy outbuildings. Here the complimentary wi/fi service is sketchy at best, and if our experience is an indicator of the mode, visitor service is likewise diminished. Our keycard didn't work to get us into our building; the concierge insisted it was our card handling (next to credit card or phone), but 36 hours and a change in staff later it was decided that the scanner was malfunctioning. (While most of the staff here were competent to charming, the front desk woman we dealt with left us feeling less than welcome, as if our interactions were intrusions—even before our problems started). Our toilet did not flush effectively, and was not remedied until after two requests for service. A request for a third drinking glass was not honored (reservation was for three).... The pillows were about as substantial as cloth napkins, and showering was an interesting experience: swing door for about 2/5 of tub length only shielded floor from water if you showered near the spigot). While the proximity to Dublin is great, the town of Lucan quaint, and the grounds of the property restful, Finnstown Castle Hotel certainly upended the maxim "You get what you pay for" in our experience.

Gorgeous

Pros: The grounds and the appearance were flawless.
Cons: The beds could be better; the mattress was not very comfortable. Which was somewhat surprising since everything else seemed to be high quality.
Location: The area is mostly residential, but you have very easy access to the highway and are able to travel with ease.
This hotel met and exceeded expecations right upon arrival. While the photos online look amazing, I didn't hold expectations that it would look exactly like that. I expected the building to be somewhat older and have those associated characteristics. But I was pleasantly surprised and expectations were far exceeded. The entrance to the hotel alone is impressive; a long, private, well maintained drive that is romantically lined with trees and vegetation. And once you cross the threshold to the property, you feel like royalty arriving. It's simply gorgeous. And my arrival was seemingly timed with a wedding party - so the ambience was further elevated. The check-in process was flawless and quick. I was easily directed to where my room was located. Upon entering, everything felt brand new. The room was very large; comparatively I had just spent 4 days in a tiny flat in London. And everything was very modern. The power to the room was controlled by the room key; once inserted in the slot (inside the room), all the lights, etc. worked. I had never seen that before and was impressed. The bathroom was quite modern with title, large shower with movable glass separation. Plenty of room to move about. There were two garden windows that again showcased the well manicured grounds. My only negative was the bed itself. For all the beauty that was in the room, the actual comfort of the bed was a miss. It didn't feel like a high quality mattress. Otherwise, 2 thumbs up!

Gorgeous place, no complaints whatever.

Pros: Beautiful gardens and so cozy. Ireland was my favorite place I've ever been. I can't stop gushing about the country and this hotel.
Cons: nothing.
Location: Dublin is great so is Malahide Castle.
Everyone was wonderful and so warm and kind. The food was lovely overall incredible experience. I would return to Ireland just to stay at this hotel.

March 2015

We stayed in Ireland for about nine days and five different castle/hotels. Finnstown was actually my favorite. You could open the windows, the room was large and the grounds were quite nice. The shower had a tendency to leak out onto the floor but had decent pressure. It was pretty noisy but it was also St. Patrick's Day weekend. I'd stay there again though.
