History of the Anderson House:
Historic Anderson House was built in three stages by Asslag Anderson, a Norwegian immigrant. After completing the dock and Anderson General Store, he built a small three-room house and a rather large summer kitchen behind the house. The store has a second-floor apartment which the family used for additional living space. In 1864 the two-story log home was constructed, a free-standing structure very close to the original house. In the early 1870’s the two homes were connected, a front porch was added, and a second story added above the first sunroom is the only part of the current configuration not built by the Anderson’s. Originally constructed as a working greenhouse in the 1960’s; then in the 1980’s, it was remodeled into a four seasons room.

With the completion of the house, the second floor boasted ten bedrooms and the house become one of Ephraim’s first guest houses. A grand piano graced the living room and the second floor had a bathroom, only used by guests, the family used the outdoor privy.

Anderson House is steeped in history and once again joyously welcoming guests!

a dream come true
I have wanted to spend time at this home for a few decades now. The fact that it is now on VRBO was just a perfect gift to me and my (now) husband and made our wedding weekend just that much more special. It's a beautiful home, part of Ephraim's history, and very comfortable for 6 guests. The house has many spaces in which to relax, including a lovely garden. And the location is superb.

Beautiful Historic Home!
We loved our stay at the Anderson House. It was even better than described in the listing. There was more than enough room for five adults to spread out. Overall a great stay for our family to relax and enjoy beautiful Door County. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.

Week away with family
Beautiful house in a great location. So many living spaces! We didn't need to use the AC as the house stayed cool and has many ceiling fans. Shampoo, tissues and bath soap would be good additions for future guests - at least small sizes for that first day. We brought a work computer and Internet speed was great.

Perfect place to stay
spacious, historic house in a beautiful setting close to the water. Excellent location, convenient to get to places north and south, and to the lake side. Owners were incredibly responsive and friendly. Property manager was easy to work with too. The owners’ store attached to the house is a must!

Wonderful!
We loved staying at Anderson House! We’ve been coming to door County for 20 years and this is the first time we stayed in Ephraim. We thoroughly enjoyed the view of the water and sunroom. Anderson House has plenty of room to spread out. This is a great place to stay and the 20% off at the store is a wonderful bonus.

Seize your chance to experience history
We had a great time at Anderson House! I felt really lucky we had the chance to stay at such a well-run property full of history. I’ve been coming to Door County since I was a child, and it was really special to be able to stay at a house that’s such a strong part of its history, and part of the collection of historic Anderson locales in Ephraim. Just to be able to take my coffee across the street each morning and sit at Anderson Dock and soak it all in was worth it. The house has a modern, comfortable feel, and although it was a busy summer as usual right outside, we never noticed it when we were at the house. Don’t miss the chance to stay here!

Historical home
We loved our stay at the historic Anderson House. There are four living areas including a delightful windowed sunroom which we especially enjoyed. The living areas are quite spacious, the beds comfortable and the hosts welcoming. We were concerned that there would be a lot of road noise but did not notice any. We did not use the outdoor area because it was cool and rainy but thought it was charming. Great location for Exploring Door County.
