The grounds and everything was beautiful. I suppose the real beauty are in the upgraded rooms as the standard rooms were pretty lackluster. Lots of room space and decent bedding but a far cry from the luxuriousness of the upper floors. I enjoyed the dining at Pratt’s over all but the food was mostly bland but the service was excellent.

Was told at check in that I would receive a non upgraded room because I booked though a third party (Travelocity). Upgraded rooms are not available for "third party " bookings. Our room was dirty ( long black hairs and finger nail clippings on floor ), had a damaged headboard, worn out furniture and the drapes had dark red stains that looked like dried blood on them. This was my third visit to this hotel in 3 years and conditions have gone way, way down. I will never stay this hotel again even if it were free.

The hotel was under renovations and there were a bunch of issues like our shower didn't work and there were no lights in the hall. The hotel staff was very accommodating and gave me a discount but it was pretty crazy to be paying close to $200 for a basic hotel room that didn't even have a working shower.

History in a Hotel

We loved the look of this hotel and the ability to learn about the history. Loved all the pictures of the place in its earlier years and the story of the brothers who all built their homes in Glen Cove. First, the positives. The grounds were just gorgeous, with big old trees and beautiful landscaping. The pool area also cozy and inviting, and there was frequently music playing outside for some event. The room was nothing fancy, but the bed was really comfortable. Good buffet breakfast in the dining room, which was also decorated beautifully with beautiful chandeliers and lots of big windows to view the landscaping. Staff was helpful and friendly. Now the negatives. We tried to watch the last game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the common area with the pool table, but a loud party was going on in the same room, so we couldn't hear. Would have been nice to have the party isolated somewhere so it did not disturb other guests. Also had a problem with dirty windows that looked out to the garden area. Also wrinkled carpets are a pet peeve of mine and saw this a lot in the hotel. Little things that if corrected would increase my rating to 5 stars.

It's on Dosoris Lane. Sabrina!!!

The check in was great. But it's in a historic home (that was used in the original Sabrina!!!). It's more of a conference type hotel. Meeting room everywhere. But lots of long hallways and up and down stairs. Parking would have not been so bad except it was dark and cold and raining when we arrived and we had to cross the grounds with no umbrella and not many lights.

Short family escape

Pros: Outdoor areas. swimming pools, playgrounds.
Cons: Room service personnel, at least they need to speak English. After few reminders, the cleaner did not understand that we need towels to be changed.
Location: The hotel area is so big, that you can simply walk in the compound. In 30 min walk is the sea and the beach, but there are no sidewalks to the road.
My overall rating of 4 is with some stretch, as I was hesitating between 3 and 4. Venue and outdoors were perfect. Rooms were tired. Facility caters for corporate/private events and is less friendly for individual/family visitors. Has few staff assigned to various hotel areas/facilities, and they are expected to multi-task, as a result limiting their permanent availability.

Last Minute Reservations

Pros: The mansion/ grounds were beautiful. The staff was very friendly. The food at the pub was decent fare and the service was excellent.
Cons: The room decor was a little dated but it was very comfortable and spacious.
Location: Perfect location close to the Long Island Junior Rowing Championship Regatta.
My son was participating in a regatta in Oyster Bay. He had to be there early, so coming from New Jersey we decided to stay overnight. I booked the room at the very last minute.
