This garden apartment is clean, spacious and extremely private. It is on the bottom floor of our private family home, with a private entrance, on two acres of gardens, woodlands and redwood groves. The 800 SF apartment comfortably sleeps 3 and comes with a queen bed and a twin. It has woodland views from every window, and includes a peaceful outdoor seating area. The unit has been recently updated with a new bathroom, gorgeous wood-look floors and screen doors.
The location of this apartment couldn't be more ideal. It is 2 minutes from charming downtown Kentfield, a minute from Sir Francis Drake (a main thoroughfare), 5 minutes from highway 101, 20-25 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, 30 minutes from San Francisco and 40 minutes from wine country. It is in the prettiest part of one of the most beautiful counties in the country - Marin - and close to everything. It's just north of the chilly fog belt encompassing SF and Mill Valley, so the weather here is sunny and mild year-round. And here's the kicker: it feels totally removed, at the end of a road, with no traffic noise and total privacy. A secret oasis!
Overall the apartment is simple, perhaps a little dated, but large, private and comfortable and in an incredible location. The kitchen is very 1970's, with solid oak cabinets and tile floors and counters, and fully equipped for cooking. The dining area seats 4, and the living area has a flat screen TV with premium cable package. The twin bed is in a nook off the living area. The living/ dining area has sliding glass doors with screens that open onto a small patio with grill and seating looking over the woods. The unit has a nice open feel due to the many windows and sliding glass doors and woodland views. The enclosed bedroom has a very good queen bed and another sliding glass door, giving it lots of light. The bathroom has been recently renovated and features a large glass-enclosed shower with teak bench (no tub).
The unit is updated in some aspects (bathroom, floor, screens, some furnishings), but a little dated and worn in others (kitchen, overall paint job). All of this is reflected in the price, which is very reasonable for the area and will rise when we complete renovations.
The Garden Apartment is at the bottom of a long flight of rough, rustic steps, down a long path from the parking area. It might not be a match for those with mobility issues.
IMPORTANT: This is a ground floor unit in a family home. Guests should expect some level of overhead noise: footsteps, voices, music etc. Also, Sandy (one of the owners) is a musician and has his studio on the top floor of the house, two floors above. The floor above the Garden Apartment is newly carpeted, but this is an historic home and noise does carry. All of this is fine with most of our guests, and is reflected in the price. BUT: This place will NOT be a match for folks with high noise sensitivity. If that is you please don’t book, we’ll both be unhappy.
