I wanted so badly to give the place 5 stars because it is a wonderful hotel, but there's a design flaw in the rooms that I just can't overlook. The doors to the balcony are basically solid wood, and they are either open or closed. So you're either completely shut in with only artificial light to see by, or you're completely exposed to all of the heat, noise and bugs coming in from the outside.
Be aware that there are no elevators in the hotel. That wasn't a problem for me, I love the exercise, but for others it might be a showstopper.
The hotel has a restaurant that's just okay - I expected a little better from a hotel that I'd rate 5 stars.
But the nitpicking ends there. My room was HUGE - 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a living room, our own mini-pool on the balcony. We had to yell from one end of the room to hear each other at the other! Beautiful swimming pool, easy access to the beach with beachside restaurants less than a 10 minute walk down the beach. Tons of stuff to do within a 30 minute walk or 10 minute cab ride. Staff friendly and bilingual.
I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo.

This Hotel is great if you want to stay close to the beach as you can walk down to beach straight from the Hotel. The building itself can be confusing to get around but it’s not so bad.

We had a fantastic time at the Embarc. The staff was great and the resort was beautiful. The beach is wonderful...we had no problem getting a lounge chair with shade. The food at the restaurant was very good and at a reasonable price. The walk to town was easy (downhill)...would recommend a cab for the return trip. We loved our room (building 5).

We had a terrific stay at the Embarc. The location is excellent. It is right on the beach so you just walk down some steps and you're on the sand. It's also an easy downhill walk to the shopping area of Zihuatanejo. And, if it's too hot to walk back uphill, there are plenty of taxis in town for a quick ride back.
I really liked the fact that there was a pool for kids where they could play and be themselves, and a separate pool for adults with a swim up bar.
Be sure you a reserving the room you want. Not all rooms have views of the water.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive, party-atmosphere resort, this place probably isn't for you. We were there in the off season, and it was pretty low key, which we liked.
The menu for the restaurant is not extensive, but all the food was really good! We found the staff to be extraordinarily helpful and very friendly. Key staff members are fluent in English, and all of them speak at least some.
I would definitely return to the Embarc.
