Too old hotel, bad smell

Room is too old, smell in the room is terrible, however staff are nice

Avoid Kadoka, if you can

Pros: Close to entrance of the Badlands.
Cons: Smoke smell in front office, Internet access, pool cleanliness, hot tub availability, updating of rooms, quieter air conditioner, musty smelling rooms
Location: Nothing to do in the town. Badlands are close by
Heading west to Yellowstone NP we stayed one night in the Rodeway Inn in Kadoka, SD. A big mistake. Kadoka really has nothing to offer except a couple of gas stations. Very few places to eat and they close early. Our hotel boasted a hot tub (useful to unwind after many hours on the road) and free Internet. What we found was a drained hot tub with green water in the low spots. It obviously had not functioned for quite some time. The pool also was not what I would call clean...lots of things on the bottom and floating on the top. We never did see any Internet access point even after having the manager restart it 2 times. (Had no trouble connecting at any other hotel locations on the trip.) The air conditioner in the room rattled like crazy until I found that stuffing paper between the frame and cover stopped the vibration. The room smelled musty. We wanted to get away from this property so quickly that we skipped the continental breakfast.

Nice stay for the money

Pros: Free breakfast
The motel was fine...it was our first night in South Dakota. We had to kick the door open cause it stuck...but all was fine after that. The continental breakfast was at the restaurant right next door. No option for full menu...but that was fine with us. The lady that ran the breakfast area was so sweet and a real hoot, and then another local came in and told us a few jokes...so we had breakfast and a show!! LOL We had a nice time there. Would recommend this hotel to friends!

Stay

This is a MOtel, not a hotel. Room entrances are exterior - I did not feel safe.

Good Value

Hotel and Room very comparable to more expensive chains. Room was clean and well appointed. Only problems were a too-firm bed and an inability on connect to the wifi signal in the room. There was an internet-ready computer in the lobby that we were able to use. Very Good value for the price.
