Staff was very professional and friendly. Beautiful, modern hotel with lots of interesting artwork and history. Love the moving penguins. Platform beds provide a solid sleep.

I will start with: this hotel is recently remodeled and everything is new and in good shape. If you are looking to stay in a modern, hipster hotel near downtown KC, this one will probably be just fine for you...UNLESS you have children. I cannot recommend this hotel for anyone with a child. The artwork on display in the galleries are not appropriate for children. For example, there is a picture that contains imagery showing a grown man forcing a young girl to perform fellatio. OK, yes this is art, and the art is making an overall point, but it is not appropriate to have in a public area accessible by minors, with no warnings. Even if you don't have a child with you, but you have young kids, the images are disturbing. When we checked in, there was a wedding reception in one of the galleries. When the reception was over we toured that gallery and it was filled with art depeicting dystopian marriages. Not where I would want to celebrate my wedding... To me, these things point to a complete lack of emapthy, foresight, and propriety. In addition, this hotel used to be the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi until it was bought out by a hotel chain in 2017 and closed for renovation. My wife and I stayed at the Savoy Hotel many times prior to this, and enjoyed the original furnishings, plaster walls, and charm. The rennovated hotel has none of this charm, and practically nothing original was retained, not even the original reception desk is used.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback after your trip to our 21c Kansas City. At 21c, we expect that the exhibitions will generate a wide range of conversations, and realize that not everything will appeal to everyone. The current exhibition, titled “OFFSPRING: New Generations” is at its heart about ritual. Exploring the development of both personal and group identity, childhood, family, history, and gender politics, these artworks employ iconographic imagery to reveal how we learn to live, love, work, and dream in the 21st century. At the wedding altar, in the family home, or in the classroom, within the fantasy of childhood play or harsh realities of others, these new, old narratives generate a spectrum of meditations on the contemporary construction of self and society. Rather than make explicit statements, these particular artworks were chosen to explore the various themes discussed above, and as such will present themselves differently based on each viewer. We would like to thank you for your comments and we hope our future exhibitions will resonate differently with you.

Not impressed. First, my wife and I own and operate our own tattoo studio, and as such...we have A LOT of art...however after arriving we were treated differently than the average patron of this establishment (except for the women at the front desk from 6pm on). We are not hipsters, we are a couple in our late 40's that has 3 children. The room was clean, however the thermostat would not stay at the temperature we would set it at. Prior to leaving our room for the evening, we set it at 68°, upon returning it was back at 72°. Set it again prior to bed, and when we awoke...again 72°. The bed was too soft for our personal taste. Woke up to EXTREMELY LOUD knocking at 7:00, even though we had the "do not disturb" hanger on the door. It was house keeping. We went ahead and got up, checked out of our room. Went to the Savoy Grille, stood inside of the restaurant for approximately 5 minutes...no service. The gentleman that would ultimately seat and serve us, was stan ding outside the entrance having a conversation with another employee. We come back to KC for business and pleasure on a semi-regular basis, we will NOT be staying here again. On a positive note, the building itself is beautiful. The architecture is beautiful

Hello Anonymous, Thank you for your review, we appreciate all your feedback. I am incredibly disturbed to hear that you felt you were treated differently because of your skin art. As a 21c, one of the things that makes us different is our unique Museum concept, and the fact that we want every guest and employee to feel comfortable and themselves while with us. This mark was clearly missed, and I am personally sorry that you were made to feel this way. I'd like to get more details about your stay so I can investigate these serious issues personally. I would also love the chance to show you our true, luxury standards with a complimentary room when you next return to Kansas City. Please feel free to reach out to me with any additional comments or questions you may have. Thank you, Alexa Bustamante, Front Office Manager

We were so excited about a night away from kids and the chance to sleep in, but a constant knocking sound from our heater kept us awake all night!
