This historic landmark was built in 1929 as The Pickwick Plaza Hotel by the same developer of City Hall, Jackson County Courthouse & the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. The indoor pool & hot-tub was reconstructed from what was once known as one of the country’s largest bus depots. The 11th floor penthouse was once home to prominent radio stations KMBC & WHB which saw such faces as Elvis, The Man In Black, Old Blue Eyes & many others. President Harry S. Truman stayed at the hotel frequently writing what would later be known as the “Pickwick Papers”.
