Great location and we got upgraded suite with two queens and living room that could closed off. The breakfast buffet had some local dishes to the south, but wasn’t as vast as some of the hotels we stayed in Taipei and Taichung. There are plenty of food options in Hanshin mall next to Hi-Lai. You don’t even have to walk outside; bonus, if you come here during summer time heat.

A big, busy hotel with excellent service and amenities. Bell-hops, luggage assistance etc were all excellent. Breakfast options could be improved. Limited 'Western' options for breakfast. Queues for tea and coffee could be improved by having two beverage stations rather than only one for such a large number of diners. Everything else, however, was really good. On-site restaurant options for dinner are excellent. Would highly recommend.

Good value for money in a central location
So, unfortunately I didn't stay very long, but I really liked it. It would have been worth a longer stay. The room itself was unusually nice, and its central location made it easier to get around town. Kaohsiung is itself a really nice city. I didn't visit the department store in which it is located, but I guess it would be a convenient place to access services as well.

I'm glad I picked a room with harbor view and it was gorgeous. The sauna (hot spring style) is a luxury experience. I also like the details such as the concierge would write down the taxi license plate as I get off it and hand it the copy to me just in case I forget anything in the car, let alone opening and closing doors for you. I didn't eat at the hotel but the shopping mall next door has plenty of eating options (open at 11am though). I walked around the neighborhood and there are lots of shops for all kinds of things. Definitely a top choice for staying in Kaohsiung.
