The home does have internet access, it is a DSL signal, so this will be potentially a connection lite stay. You may not be able to download entire video series out here, but with the natural beauty and peace you won't want to be staring at a screen. Zoom calls do work - and we have had guests work remotely from the home without an issue.
The property sits on 8 acres of woods, and is just around the corner from Lake Robertson, a large lake park with fishing, hiking, kayaking and canoeing. You are also only 20 minutes from Natural Bridge State Park and the Virginia Safari Park.
There is ample firewood on the property for the outdoor fire pit.
Please note we do not allow hunting, ATV's, dirt biking or shooting any firearms on the property. When walking the trails please realize that there may be plants and animals harmful to you, such as bears, deer, ticks, snakes, poison ivy, poison oak, etc. Do not eat any of the wild plants or remove/fall any of the trees on the property. This is a rural, wild place and we would like to keep it that way, so please do not leave food items and trash outside. It attracts animals and makes them dependent on human interaction, which in the case of a bear is lethal to them. This property does not have municipal garbage service, so please take your trash to a collection center just down the road that is drive up and open 24 hours a day 7 days a week if you are staying longer than 3 or 4 days. Do not leave trash outside the home. We do have wildlife that travel through the area and this property. You will likely see many while staying at this home. We routinely have deer, turkeys , raccoons, a large variety of song birds, and an occasional bear or bobcat. You are likely to see deer every day you are at the home. They very often are just feet from the front or back of the home.
This property is also on well water (filtered) and a septic system, do not flush anything down the toilet except toilet paper. The property does not have a garbage disposal in the kitchen, so all food items must be put in the trash, not down the sink drain.
We ask you keep pets off the furniture. There are extra "dog towels" next to the front door to wipe off muddy feet and coats, in addition to bins to put your shoes when you come in. This helps keep the home cleaner and tidy for your stay. We would like to keep offering the home as pet friendly, so we ask that you monitor your pet at all times when in the home, and if they are going to be left alone they should be in a crate. Owners will be responsible for damages done to the home or belongings by their pets.
There will be a hot tub installed on the property the end of October to the beginning of November. Please use the hot tub in moderation, for no more than 15 minutes at time and never above 103 degrees. Please ask your medical professional if hot tub use is advisable. Do not allow pets of any kind in the hot tub and do not add chemicals to the hot tub ever, as this is a salt water hot tub. Please place the cover back on the hot tub when not in use and when you check out make sure it is securely fastened.
There is a Ring camera system outside the home that shows only the exterior of the home. There are also noise detection devices that do not pick up conversation but measure the level of sound in the home.
We do allow pets with a maximum of 2 pets per reservation. We have a $10 per night per pet fee that covers the additional cleaning costs associated with a pet stay. Please keep pets off furniture, include sofa, chairs, beds and outdoor balcony furniture. We would like to keep this home pet friendly and ask guests with pets be respectful of the home and property to continue to allow this benefit to families who wish to travel with a pet.
This property is in a rural area and not fenced in. If you are bringing dogs please make sure they will stick with you or walk them on a leash for their safety.
You will not want to leave this place! The quiet, beauty and wildlife will have you remembering how to destress and unplug.
