Second time - Disappointed

I have been to Lviv about six years ago and stayed at this hotel then, as I remember the hotel was a place to sleep, shower stow your belongings and leave... nothing spectacular. So last month I took my husband there and showed him Lviv so I choose this hotel. I regret my choice. Hotel is deffinetely convenient and central in the city. You are within walking distance to everywhere and if you need a cab there is always one parked out front. The hotel is old and needs a total remodel. Staff was friendly and helpful, especialy the bellhops who work on tips. I found that if you tip well on the first day they will bend over backwards to help you. Originaly I booked a standard room for two persons about two months in advance. We arrived approximately 11pm and were told that the hotel was almost full and that there were no more standard rooms available and that we would have to pay an extra for the next level room. After some discussion the staff would not negotiate the price so we agreed. The next day I asked to see the manager because "only the manager can modify rates" and for the next four days I was told that the manager was not in or not available. I was not happy. The room had a slight stale odor, the walls are thin. Breakfast was very nice with lots of choices, but for having an almost full occupancy there weren't many people at breakfast. I think we were had, Ukee style!!!

You get what you pay for

The hotel is situated on a hill in the center of town. Most sights are nearby. Airport is approximately 15 minutes by taxi, and 10 minutes from train station. Checkin was very easy and friendly. elevators are very small and tight. Rooms are small, with old decor. My room had a smell of old mildew, carpets are worn, air vents were very dusty and dirty. The bed was not very comfortable, but the worst was when I pulled back the bedding and found long black hair in the sheets, redish lipstick and womens perfume on the pillow.... an obvious sign that the bed was not changed from the prior tenant. So I asked to be transfered to a fresh room and the front desk requested that I pay a fee of $* (half a night rate). Even after telling them that the room was never cleaned properly to begin with they demanded the fee because I had spent more than four hours there already. (I switched hotels the next day) Breakfast was the best part of the hotel. Great selection. Sorry I would not recomend this hotel
