The room was the size of my walk-in closet. Very disappointed. We had to move the chair on the corner to get to the window and found spider webs and massive dust on all baseboards. Behind the TV was also the same. No refrigerator, microwave , coffee pot, ice bucket. The room was 10X10 and their online pics are deceiving. The bathroom was definitely nice. Overpriced hotel. For that type of money per night , I expected a bigger area and certainly a clean area. The staff gets 5 stars , very kind, breakfast was great. Room gets 1 star

Goodmorning Tracy: I deeply apologize that your stay was unsatisfactory. I have made a point to contact housekeeping about the spiderwebs and dust. Please be reminded that this is a boutique historic hotel built in 1926. Therefore the rooms are smaller than chain hotels. Also, we are not like chain hotels whereas we do not have those extra amenties in our rooms. I really wish you had brought your disappointment to the attention of the front desk agent as we could have moved you to a larger room. Thank you

It was a very pleasant to experience the Wooden Pickle, the Lincoln and then a night cap at the Speak Easy before retiring to our room at the General Francis Hotel. Would love to visit again.

Excellent accomodations,service and value!

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet
What a gem of a find! The service staff was oustanding. When i inquired about how to obtain ice, the hosekeeper explained that it was available at the front desk. Within moments of having asked her the question, I had a knock on the door with a bucket of ice. The on premise retaurant and seperate bar was also outstanding. The room was cozy and comfortable with a nice sitting area. I would recommend the Jr. suite with a king size bed. My wife explained that the entire experience put her in the Christmas spirit! We'll deffinately come and stay again.

The room was so comfortable & cozy I didn't want to leave!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, food is terrific!
Cons: no ramps for rolling bags
Everything about the rooms are wonderful!! So inviting, comfortable and cozy. You almost feel like you've stepped back in time with skeleton key locks & real wood doors! I feel like I'm treating myself to something special when I stay here!

Charming Place, Full of Atmosphere, Would Stay Again

I stayed here the night of June 11th. The lady at the desk was the soul of Southern hospitality. Their restaurant served excellent food. This restored hotel oozes atmosphere, and even includes touches such as the hotel's original switchboard on display on the lobby. The lobby also has an internet-connected terminal for guests. Upstairs, there are a ballroom and a card room, or guest lounge. The room was one of the smallest I've ever stayed in--don't plan to practice your kickboxing. The only mirror for dressing consists of mirrored panels set into the closet door. On the other hand, the bathroom was actually quite large. A hairdryer in each room was advertised, but I never saw it; I found out only by turning to page 9 of the hotel's guest information notebook that it was kept in the chest of drawers. I got a good AARP rate, though the card on the back of the room door said the standard rate for my room was $*, which I wouldn't even begin to pay for a room that small, even if I could afford it. In any case, the place is charming and comfortable, as well as being only a few minutes from I-81. I would certainly stay there again.

Getaway

The room was surprisingly nice. The renovations that were done to the hotel were exquisitely done. The restaurant is reasonably priced, the food is delicious and the wait staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel staff are welcoming and very helpful. Overall the price for the money is good. The location is a little iffy as the downtown area is virtually vacant which is unfortunate for this hotel as it is a Gem off of 81.
