Our first room had an uncomfortable bed and we were woken up to loud construction. Edith was great and moved us to a great room. George was also very nice at front desk. The wait staff in the restaurant were also very good.

Great location across from the beach with ocean view from upper rooms. Staff were very nice and accommodating. Sand volleyball courts, outdoor fitness equipment and bike share rentals with 7-mile walking/bike path all within a block.

Bed bugs

Pros: The Art Deco charm.
Cons: The cleanliness of the room.
Location: Located in the heart of everything shopping art galleries and restaurants are a short walk or trolley ride away.
I was very excited about this vacation. This hotel was selected because we stayed there years ago and our stay was fabulous. Unfortunately during the First night of our stay I was bitten by bed bugs. It ruined my stay and my vacation. The staff was very apologetic and moved us to another room but the damage was done. I had trouble sleeping the remaining time I was there. I know you may not be able to post this but you need to know what I experienced. I'm disappointed and traumatized by this and honestly would like a refund. The hotel couldn't give me one because the stay was booked through Travelocity. They did pay for a taxi to the airport at the end of our stay. If you've ever been bitten by bed bugs you know that the experience is very uncomfortable. The bits around my neck and arms are painful itchy and swollen. Mentally terrified is how I'm feeling still as I take all precautions necessary not to bring these pest into my home. I would like for a representative to contact me to discuss a refund.

Quaint, Art Deco, but in need of help

This is a charming hotel from the early 1940s, but it is need of some help. Various cracks, shower rod coming out of the wall, toilet that mostly worked fine, etc. Parking took almost two hours to find a location, and ultimately, we were forced to valet. It's a great touristy location, right on Ocean Drive, but while this may go without saying, be leery of sound. The windows are old/original, and our room was right above the nightly music/cars/etc.; needless to say, sleeping didn't much happen. It's cheaper than other SoBe areas, and you can certainly see why. Just be careful with which room you get, and if you at all value any sort of sleep, avoid an ocean-view room (or being on Ocean Drive at all).

Thank you for being our guest and taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad that you liked our convenient location and affordable rates. However, we have very little control over the nightlife and revelry near our location on Miami's famous South Beach. We are sorry the street and sidewalk sounds interfered with a restful night for you and suggest on your next visit you request a room in the back of our hotel where it is much quieter in the evening hours. We also regret any other inconvenience caused while you were here. We hope you will stay with us again when you are in this area and give us another chance to make a much better impression. Warmest Regards, General Manager

Avalon Hotel

Pros: The Location was across the street from the beach so it was within walking distance.
Location: The hotel was on the main strip at the beach, there are tons of things to do and again the beach is right across the street.
If you are concerned with having a "swank" hotel than this is not the place for you. The hotel is definately older and it shows. Thats not to say it wasnt a good place to stay. We were there just for a place to sleep which the room was adequate enough for. The staff was great, they were alway friendly and accomodating. The only other issue I had was parking....there is no on-site parking, you have to have a valet take your car and park it at an off-site facility which the hotel bills you at 29.00 a day which they dont tell you. So low and behold when you check out there is an additional fee for parking.

Thank you for being our guest and for taking the time to share your feedback. I am glad you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed most aspects of our hotel, especially our location just steps from the beach and in the heart of all the action on Ocean Drive. I will share your compliments with my team, and they will be thrilled to know they met all your expectations. As far as parking charges go, we try to make all of our guests aware of these charges at the time of booking so that no one is surprised when they arrive, I am sorry we missed in your case. We hope this will not detract your overall great stay and we hope you will stay with us again when you are in this area and will give us a second chance to make a much better impression. Warmest Regards, General Manager
