Room not ready upon arrival had to wait until after4:PM To get our keys to the room.Courtyard view was promised per reservation and received a room with a view of the side of a building and a mechanical well, very disapointed. Called front desk to express my concerns and they really didnt care, they said someone would get back to us and no one ever did, Im sure its because we booked a third party. They really made us feel like 2nd class citizens. now i know what it feels like to be disremenated against, i would seriously consider dropping this hotel from your business partner list and i will have to reconsider using travelocity again if you continue to do business with corporations such as the Balboa Bay Resort. They put up a good smokescreen but thier customer service relations earn a"F"

Thank you for taking the time to review Balboa Bay Resort. We apologize for any inconvenience for your room not being ready prior to our check-in time of 4 PM. Our courtyard rooms do vary in views, with some overlooking the pool and some overlooking other interior areas of the Resort. We work hard to make sure all guests feel welcome, respected and taken care of during their stays and apologize if this was not how you felt during your stay. We do hope that we can welcome you back soon and wow you with our high levels of service.

Overpriced. Over everything.

Pros: The room was clean.
Cons: Complete overhaul including personnel. No energy or enthusiasm reflected by the employees.
At $500/nt, you could understand that a room overlooking the parking lot is a bit underwhelming. Next, a huge RV parked right in front of our window. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The food is awful. Shrimp was mushy, caesar salad was oily and did not taste at all like a Caesar salad, and it was obviously pre-mixed. Romaine, I think it was anyway, was anemic, limp and bland. Very noisy road kept us from sleeping well. So happy we only booked one night as we would have needed to move to another hotel. I'm sure even Motel 6 would have been better. What a disappointing place this is. Resort? The Balboa Bay Resort has obviously seen its day. At check in, the front desk clerk whispered in a very noisy lobby and then seemed inconvenienced to repeat her words. And the employees know nothing about the hotel: when was it built? "Ugh, I don't know." We searched for the concierge three times and the desk was empty each time.

Balboa Bay Resort - Newport Beach

Pros: I liked the staff. They were extremely accommodating and pleasant
I was looking for a nice extended vacation with beach access and very little driving. I wanted to wake up, put my toes in the sand, order food service and just relax! Did not get that at this hotel, at all. The ads are very misleading. While there is a private beach, the beach is for resort members only, not hotel guests. Extremely inconvenient. There is no beach access so I had to leave the hotel each day to see the beach. The pool is okay, but feels like a 3 star hotel pool at best. The restaurant has a nice view of yachts but the food is not great and their menu is scarce. Stay here if you don't mind taking a cab, uber or your car to eat, sightsee, spend time at the beach.

Very disappointing

The food was horrible; room service was worse. The front desk had a typed list of restaurants that delivered. Standard room with a view is overlooking the parking lot on PCH. Everything costs: Internet, treadmill - absolutely everything.

Made us feel like we were doing them a favor by staying there

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy
The room itself was beautifully appointed and luxurious. but the check in staff was not friendly. They were not rude, but not helpful either. As a result, we were disappointed with the hotel. Our room was right next to a busy street (Coast Highway) and the furthest possible distance from the elevator. Because of some very large function going on, we were told there was no self parking and were required to use valet parking for $28 per night. The only plus was that the gentlemen who did the valet parking were very courteous and pleasant.

Phenominal service, view, comfort and style! Could have stayed forever.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, free internet - in the library (but not in room), lots of great toiletries
The attention to award-winning customer service begins the instant your car stops rolling: valets appear immediately at your doors with brilliant smiles, sincere greetings and pleasant inquiries about your travels. You and your equipage are then gently whisked to the front desk where, if you are fortunate, the dazzlingly efficient and generous Jena will confirm your reservation and assign your room. Give her the slightest opportunity and you may receive an upgrade! The rooms are fantastic! Ours had a balcony overlooking Newport yacht harbor . . . dozens of multi-million dollar yachts literally at our feet when we opened the shutters. All the staff was extremely helpful and friendly - from Andrew and Scott, the bellmen, to the maid who was on her knees cleaning baseboards in the hallway as we got to the second floor elevator lobby-and stopped what she was doing to look up, smile, and greet us. 5-star treatment all the way!

A wonderful vacation

Pros: Close restaurants, a great conseirge, super valet parking, timely front desk support
Everything was perfect - we were treated like royalty. Even though this is obviously a convention type hotel set up for business people on expense accounts, my wife and I enjoyed our vacation stay immensely.

I went there for some R&R and found the place to be quiet with great resources, excellent staff but the bed was too soft.

Pros: Quiet
Prices in the restaurant are a bit high as were bar prices.
