Hotel requires serious upgrades
The hotel is at the point where it needs to be closed and a decision taken regarding continued operations with serious investment. Staff was plea to and the view was excellent however it is not correct to promote as a beachfront hotel as there is no beach and the pool area requires substantial work. This hotel has potential but should not be promoted at this time

Terrible Experience!
I paid $100 US for a night. Not even for $20 a night I would be willing to stay here in the future.
The hotel is rundown, the beds were old and very uncomfortable, the neighborhood was very noisy next-door to a gambling parlor or something.
I strongly suggest you find somewhere else to stay.

What Are You Looking For?
I have been to Jamaica many times over the years and have stayed in various hotels. My question to everyone who may be vacationing and searching for a hotel is "what are you looking for?" Of course you want friendly staff and a CLEAN room any other amenities are preferential right? I like to ENJOY the island...which means people, food, and activities NOT being in the hotel. There is always 1 or 2 days (depending on the length of your stay) that you may stay close to the hotel and then you may look for those "extras". Anyway, the Silver Seas is not high on the luxury end AT ALL. Staff are pleasant, courteous and with what resources they have, they will avail to you (i.e, iron). The rooms are like most caribbean hotels with tile floors, tropical prints, wicker furniture, but at the Silver Seas, they are beyond old. The bedding was the worst for me. I had read some reviews and brought my own towels and blankets and was VERY glad that I did! The bathrooms are extremely antiquated as is the entire hotel, but it is quaint and you could see where it had GREAT potential. The "beach front" well...the sun was shining and provided me with warmth so that's all I can say about that. The location is daunting, even our driver was unsure of how to get to the hotel. But it is in the heart of Ochie...nothing was farther than a 10 minute walk. The cooks were great; however, you can find many other local eateries that are a little more cost effective and filling. Ladies STAY together not that you have to "worry", but you don't want to bring unnecessary trouble to yourself.

American vs Jamaican
Pros:Close restaurants, Quiet, nice open air patio, nice ocean view
Please understand that the AAA 3-star rating is Jamaican standards, not American. Nice patio, lovely ocean view, lovely coral reef within swimming distance .... but also, bed & pillows were rather flat, towels had holes in them, bare lightbulbs ..... we were thankful for the A/C and hot showers. I guess by Jamaican standards we had it pretty good.

Aging Star
Pros:Quiet, not crowded
Cons:bathrooms could use an upgrade.
No doubt you can find more expensive places and more modern places; but this place is a chance to enjoy Jamaca at a moderate cost. The hotel was one of the first built in Ocho Rios, (1948) and was at one time a grand hotel. However the years have taken their toll and the hotel is like an aging screen actress. Great roots but starting to show some signs of age.
The rooms do not have telephones or internet but we were on vacation, and it was great to not have the telephone or computer. Instead we had ocean views that were vibrant and very colorful. Water was gorgeous! Went snorkeling just outside the room. Meals were available in the hotel at a reasonable cost. We ate out some, but meals are a small adventure in their own right. Restaurants often did not have menu items and being on an island you learned to go with the flow. Make sure you get to know Barry very accomodating person. Dave the bartender was also there to provide drinks since there was a bar on site. Local drinks were readily available and grocery stores sold liquor by the bottle.
All in all a quiet relaxing get away... not fancy but very enjoyable!

It had a tropical feeling because of the scenery.
When we first arrived the first impression was amazing and then we were escorted to our room. The odor in the room has horrible. We proceded to look around and found there were no basic necessities such as telephone, television, radio, hot water, and clean tub or linen;So one of us went down to the desk and reported that we were upset and needed a different room. We were told that was not possible for that night and that management would check in the Am on our accommodations. We had a family member of a friend to come pick us up, he allowed us to freshen up at his place of residence before we returned to the hotel many hours later. We didnt want to have to spend any more time in that room. We returned to the front desk the next morning and asked to moved once again. We were told it was being arranged as soon as the other customers checked out and the room cleaned. The next room was better it had hot water but no television etc., but it did have a nice balcony. I would never stay here again, and I would never send any of my love ones here.
