The on-site restaurant, The Whitfield, is amazing, with innovative and delicious food. The Lobby Bar is top notch; such a great, casual place to hang out. Great design throughout the hotel, and pet friendly. Safe neighborhood, and just a short walk to nearby restaurants, bars, drugstore, and grocery stores. And easy to take Uber/Lyft to downtown and other tourist destinations. Highly recommend!

Should say that there is no parking and that it will be $28 parking or try and park on the street

This property is charming and has everything I need for a night’s stay. I am glad I chose to stay here instead of a big chain hotel where I would normally stay. Such great quality!

Hipster hotel in a hipster neighborhood. Having grown up in Pittsburgh but living in another state for 20 years, the change in this neighborhood is shocking. Nicer, absolutely, but so bougie now. I guess we were too old to stay at this hotel because some of the things came off as silly - guitars and record players available to borrow for your room? Futon beds?

Classic Refurb

Pros: Everything
Cons: More socket outlets
Location: Nice, walkable area in downtown Pittsburgh
Refurbished downtown YMCA with spartan but efficient rooms and a lively and social jazz bar. Was captivated upon arrival!

High design, high interest hotel

The Ace was a great place to spend our weekend in Pittsburgh. Please understand, it is not your typical chain hotel, but is a re-imagined 1909 YMCA which is comfortable in a way that is very different from the [fill-in-the-blank] you stayed at on your last trip. The staff was wonderfully helpful, but each was personable in a way that made them seem actually friendly rather than well-trained. The amenities were interesting, rather than conventional, the hotel itself the kind of place that people might choose as a destination rather than a simply a place to sleep. Excellent restaurant and coffee shop/bar. Much attention to design. We would definitely return.

Needs leadership and supervision

The staff of young people is very friendly however there is no supervision or organization so we were having to request things two and three times before we finally get an answer or receive what we wanted. The restaurant is amazing… Food is some of the best I've ever had in a hotel.

Hey Cat! Thanks for your note. I'm curious and would like to get to the bottom of your comments. If its not to much to ask, can you give the hotel a ring and ask for the me? I would love to hear all about your experience with us. Happy Holidays.

Doesn't live up to the Ace Hotel standard.

Pros: Its in a historic building, so the features are interesting, but not enough to make up for the overall disaster of staying there.
Cons: First, the windows need to be sealed. First rule of shelter is to keep out the elements. Add dressers to the small rooms. Take lessons from NOLA Ace.
Location: Location is the hotel's only redemption. The neighborhood is interesting and public transit to downtown is very easy.
Too many faults to list in 1500 characters so I'll hit the highlights: - Windows in the room weren't sealed thoroughly, so we felt the cold gusts of the snowfall in our room. Our blinds shook loudly every time there was wind. All. Night. - Really loud heating equipment both inside and outside the room. Lots of vibrations in the room. - No dresser in the small room. Spent 4 days trying to corral 2 people's clothes into some semblance of an orderly pile in the corner. Not near enough hangers for two people. - Beds were uncomfortable, but manageable. - "Gym" is an empty space with a few ping pong tables. Not exactly a place to exercise or be social. - "Library" is public library next door. Convenient, but as non-residents, we can't take any material back to our room. - No coffee maker in room. The coffee shop downstairs is serving kid-sized cappuccinos. No refills on regular coffee. - No guitar in room. Picture of small room shows a guitar. I guess it's aspirational. - Our one experience with the restaurant was disgusting. Hear me out. We ordered corndogs as late night bar fare. We were served kielbaskas on a stick, wrapped with a flour-based crepe and with a side of gravy. No mustard. Each bite pooled grease onto the plate. This was beyond sad. The first ingredient of a corndog is... wait for it... corn. Corn is the first ingredient. It was nowhere to be found. That discovery cost $7. We didn't even bother asking for mustard. It was inedible food.
