The place was nice. One of the best beaches I have enjoyed from my 5 visits to DR. Food was good, rooms were good, entertainment was pretty good. Although this is all subjective, I really enjoyed how awesome the staff was. They made my trip.

We booked a 7 day stay for 4 people 2 rooms on 2/10/2018 to stay 11/24-12/1. We were meeting 12 other people whom booked around the same time. We arrive in two separate vans. We were told that there was construction and no rooms available. We would need to go to another hotel... The old Dreams La Romana now the Hilton La Romana. We had book privileged. We were obviously upset and confused. How could this happen? If we had to move we wanted to make sure we were the same status. The Manager repeatedly told us yes. Not to worry. We arrived at the Hilton La Romana and it was beautiful but we were not at "preferred" status the equivalent to Catalonia "privileged" We went to concierge multiple times a day at the Hilton as they attempted to reach the Catalonia Manager. Finally on day four we contacted Travelocity who finally was able to reach the evasive Catalonia Manager. We were offered a compensation of three free days at Catalonia on a different trip and not to be extended to our existing one. So fly across the world again in hopes of a room waiting for you?? I . We were so excited to stay here!! I have emailed Catalonia Corporate, La Romana, Travelocity and my credit card.

Dear guest, Please accept our apologies due to being transferred to an alternative hotel due to unexpected issues at Catalonia Gran Dominicus, I assure you that relocating our guests is the last option and when we are forced to do so, we always offer our best disposition and options to remedy the inconvenient, many times these compensations are very well accepted by our guests and at other times they are declined, such is the case. Believe me we value all our options and it was the best offer we could make. I regret that you considered it insufficient. For our part there is nothing left to thank for your time and patience, we hope that this experience does not prevent you from returning to the Dominican Republic. Best regards.

In short, my group of 16 showed up (first group of 10, second 6) were told (group of 10) that they were getting transferred to the Hilton down the road due to the construction, WHICH WAS NOMINAL. Second group (I was a part of this group) show up and were told that the hotel was overbooked (despite booking with confirmation number in February 2018) and that we were going to be transferred to the Hilton. Fighting and fighting for over a combination of 4 hours yielded us nothing but empty promises that were not honored by Hilton. we will NEVER stay at ANY Catalonia resort as a result of this. Further actions are being pursued.

Disappointing Hotel on a beautiful Beach

Pros: The Beach and the Pool were nice.
Cons: it needs better maintenance. the place seems to be falling apart and the staff doesn't seem to care.
One good thing about this resort... the beach is beautiful. However, the place seems to be falling apart and the staff doesn't seem to care. This hotel was the same price as others in the area and we chose it because of the good reviews. We should have listened to the bad reviews. We purchased the upgraded room, but it was not nice at all. In addition, our room was not clean, it smelled bad, the AC did not work, and basic things were lacking like towels had large holes in them, and curtains were torn. We went to the front desk and expressed our concerns...after second call to them, they sent maintenance to fix the AC. The AC would work for a little bit and then fail. It was often cooler outside than in our room. Since there was no screen on the patio door and many mosquitos, we didn't dare open up in the evening. The resort had many maintenance issues. One example, the theater, where everyone goes for shows, had a light on the main stairway that had fallen out of its concrete enclosure and posed a trip hazard. It also was exposing its energized wires. It was like that our entire stay at the resort. The staff did not seem to care. The food was okay, but the restaurant had many birds that had made it their feeding ground. There was bird feces on many chairs in the restaurant. We watched as birds would eat off of the buffet line while the staff stood by and did nothing. We tried one of the special restaurants and mildew is the word to describe it.

Great Time !!!

Our stay was early July 2013. The weather was magnificent "perfect". The staff also was great, willing to help at any time , very friendly. The resort is so so relaxing with it's beautiful gardens and decors. The food was excelent and the service also. This is an all inclusive resort, and there is no limit on what you want to drink and eat. The beach was wonderful with a manmade reef about 50 yards from shore. Take some bread from the restaurant and your camera and enjoy.......If you know how, tipping will get you some extras at the restaurants and bars ( don't go tip crazy). There is a crepe shop near the beach with a bar, this was our favorite. The shows at the theater every night were fun and entertaining. There is an activity going on almost all the time, music dance lessons, zumba lessons, cardio workout by the pool, always something to have fun! The whole enviroment of the resort was great. There are many many things to do there, from sports to absolutly nothing. If you go with a group of friends will add to your stay. Would I go back? OH YEAH !!

The worst resort in the area!

I don't understand who would give more then 2 stars and great reviews to this resort... The food is blah and only 3 a la carte restaurants (+1 if you are privileged). This resort is sooooo outdated! There is nothing to do at the resort and if you do not speak Spanish you are on your own! Monday through Thursday the resort is empty and on Fridays you have 500+ locals checking in and all of them with 4+ kids. Activities and nightly shows are poorly planned. There are no alarm clocks in any rooms not to mention they still use keys for rooms not cards, which is very inconvenient if you are with your friends and not family. The only amazing thing about this resort is their beach - that was amazing. I do not recommend going there at all!!!
