The rooms pictured on the website are nothing like the room we actually received. Our room was outdated, had two twin beds instead on a queen or king, a TV from the 1980's and smelled like mildew. There is a $15 per day fee for WIFI and a fee to use the safe! In order to purchase WIFI, you have insert US dollars into a special machine, but the ATM onsite only distributes pesos. Sunscreen cost $30 in the gift shop and the staff in the gift shop were so rude to us we refused to purchase anything from them. The food presentation was beautiful and the restaurants were clean, but there was nothing special about the food. The beach was lovely, but we were often harassed by vendors who were allowed to walk up and down the beach. On Thursdays, the resort allows vendors all over the site and we were harassed every where we went. We purchased things we did not want just to get away, was sold an amber necklace that turned out to be plastic, and hid way in our room that night because we did not want to interact with pushy salespeople again. I booked this trip for my partner's 50th birthday and felt so embarrassed that the resort fell very short of a good experience. Thank goodness we rented a car so we could explore a little. I got a very good deal on the package and have learned that when it comes to travel, you get what you pay for. We have no intention of returning.

Worse trip ever

We were disappointed with our room. The outlets weren’t working, hairdryer didn’t work. Mini refrigerator wasn’t working either. The ceiling fan didn’t work. The AC seemed to not work at times. The housekeeping lady didn’t do a good job cleaning our room. We had to reuse our towels because even though we asked for clean towels she still wouldn’t bring us clean towels

Cheap but not worth it

Pros: The staff is so very friendly and accommodating. Always a smile and warm greeting.
Cons: Hot water would have been so nice.
Location: Walk down the beach to the left. The Eco area is very nice.
At check-in they wanted us to pay extra to upgrade to a renovated room. We didn't upgrade. Our room was not bad, but nothing impressive either. The TV was the size of a small microwave, the showerhead was small, with low pressure and the water was barely lukewarm and never hot and sometimes so cold you had to use the blow dryer on yourself afterwards to warm back up. We tried it at all hours, so it wasn't like it was during heavy use. The bed was very comfortable. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. No question, they made it worthwhile. The beach area is very nice, but the solicitors parade up and down the beach in front of you all day long and will not leave you alone to enjoy yourself. Coconuts, sunglasses, excursions, cigars...you name it. The boats go up and down in front of the hotel so you can't go out and snorkel anywhere off the beach. We went down the beach to the eco park most of the time, but still couldn't really snorkel. Had a massage and it was wonderful...very nice spa area. Would recommend it. The Pearl seafood Lobster dinner is to die for. It's extra money but so worth it once!

tropical Vacation

Location: The location was good but don't expect good prices for souvenirs since the free trips to the malls to shop for souvenirs were controlled by the owners
The hotel was great. The food was sometimes a little non-appealing but enough selection to enjoy the meal.I especially enjoyed the lagoons with all the aquatic birds & the fish & turtles to feed.

Room cleanliness

Pros: The staff was very friendly and very nice.
Cons: That you are free to eat wherever you want whenever you want.
Location: The excursion I choose was a 4hr excursion that most of the time seemed to be spent getting to the location and back and not on enjoying the excursion
There were roaches in my room. One big that scattered and hid behind the bathroom wall mirror and one small that layed dead in the corner on the bathroom counter that I personally left there to see if it would get cleaned up by the housekeeping staff since it was missed during preparation of my arrival. Needless to say I am back home in Nj and it is probably still lying there on the bathroom counter where I saw it when I first arrived and when I left.

We did not have running water for 2 days.

Two days without running water for shower or toilet. No compensation was made for this large inconvenience.

Friendly, cozy, and comfortable

I loved it! Went with a friend, "girls' week" (left our husbands at home) and we had a fabulous time. We liked how small and personal it was, got to know all the staff and alot of the same guests. We formed our own little group. While this is NOT a 5 star with all the pretty folded towels and flowers in your room, we liked how "rustic" it was. The customer service was great and the entertainment committee was friendly and energetic. For anyone who gave a bad review, remember this: DON'T FORGET TO TIP THE STAFF! These people are poor, and a couple of dollars here and there goes a LONG way. I am a bartender myself, and I live on tips, so I know what I'm talking about. Already planning to go back next year. The beach was wonderful, and we could always find a spot with chairs and an umbrella. Special thanks to Risa of the Entertainment Crew who made the whole week a delight with her high energy and exhuberance! The food was average, but tasty. While we did have a minor problem with the ceiling leaking in the bathroom, it was fixed immediately.
