Great hotel and funky (in a good way). Free pool table in lobby was a lot of fun to play with the kids at night. Gym was perfect size for what you need- 2 treadmills, 2 elypticals, a bike, racks of free weights to 50 lbs, balls, and matts. Free coffee, too!!!

Convenient hotel

Aloft is in convenient location, close to a retail/shopping/residential area so decent lunch and breakfast restaurants nearby since there is not really a restaurant in the hotel (except for a few breakfast choices). Hotel is industrial, loft-like, functional but not luxurious. Even though we were able to park in the courtyard as they did not offer valet, they made us pay $10/night which seemed ridiculous. I guess for the area the price is decent, but with no restaurant and a charge for parking your own car, it did not seem like a good value.

I Felt Like They Were Getting the Good Deal

Pros: Close proximity to places.
Cons: Luggage carries, drawers for clothing, a closet to put my luggage (because leaving it out is a safety hazard, especially for the handicapped)
Location: UNC, doctors, coffee shops
Well, I felt like I was staying in an Ikea the whole time. And I mean that in a bad way. I just imagined the hotel laughing because they had double the rooms in half the space. Not only that, but they charged for parking without advertising that obviously on their website or anywhere. I go to the area for medical treatments frequently and I can always park my handicapped car by the door. This time, the valet was taking up all of the good spots. The worst part was unloading. Clearly, there was not enough space for the number of cars unloading and the VERY small carts to unload luggage made it a nightmare. I was glad that we were driving, not flying, since that meant that I could bring all of the pillows that it takes to make me comfortable, as well as all of the braces, but it took two trips to unload for a two night stay. A traditional cart could have easily accommodated all of it. The unfriendly staff staring at my luggage and making eyes at each other made me want to crawl into a hole and die. I will be switching hotels when I'm back next week.

Good afternoon Sarah. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at my hotel. I'm sorry that a few of our features did not resonate well with you. As a European style hotel we understand the limitations of our offerings; however, we are about to go through a renovation that will upgrade a lot of our features. Hop your travels bring you back to chapel hill where you can experience the new and improved Aloft Hotel.

Luxurious Modern Dog Friendly Hotel!

Before my stay I had never heard of the Aloft brand.  I was pleasantly surprised.  This and the Westin may be the nicest pet friendly hotel's I've been.  The decor is bright.  Think Disney colorful.  The room reminded me of my stay in Japan which felt very modern.  I will definitely start looking for the Aloft brand when staying abroad and especially if I'm traveling with my dog.

Excellent hotel for the money

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet, refridgerator in room, pets stay free, plenty of storage
We stayed at the hotel for a couple of days while visiting family in the area. The room was not large but well designed and clean. We traveled with three very young children, and we found that the room had the amenities we needed but don't always get when we travel - a refridgerator; plenty of open storage space to store kids stuff, snacks, etc. My only complaint with the room was that there was no towel bar at the sink (the towel rack was separated by door and was with the toilet and shower) and that most of the lights lit up the entire room (there were lights built into the headboard but all other lights were overhead lights; turning on the "bathroom" light lit up most of the room). One reviewer commented that the lobby had cheap plastic furniture and looked like it had been designed by a 4 year old. This hotel is not the frilly Carolina Inn, but I don't think any traveler would expect that from the W hotel chain. The lobby is nice but is contempory. The lobby has sealed concrete floors, and leather and wood contemporary furniture. Contemporary decor may not appeal to all tastes, but I would definately not describe it as being cheap and plastic looking. This is also a good hotel if you are traveling with a dog. While the room and the hotel were very clean, we noticed that some people did not clean up after their pets. My husband also thought that he got flea bites on his ankles when walking our dog (but note, we did not see or feel any fleas in the hotel).

Great stay.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: Poor breakfast
Aloft is very trendy and modern. Likes: Room was large and non-traditional in its setup - very functional. Bed was confortable. Lobby was interesting (a pool table in the lobby). Bar was nice - they had live jazz. Dislikes: Automated check-in was impersonal.
