Lovely hotel. We were upgraded to the top floor and a larger room which was very nice because my husband is a Marriott gold member. We remarked that we wondered what the standard room size was because the upgrade room was not very large. It's a lovely hotel and lovely staff. We would not have stayed here if it weren't for Travelocity. The ONLY downside is the noise from the trains that seem to run 24/7. Other than that it was a lovely experience.

The hotel itself is fantastic, luxurious and clean. The beds and the bedding were more comfortable than we have at home. Unlike a lot of hotels these days, there were no sandpaper sheets and half-sized pillows-of-air at the US Grant The bathroom and shower were huge, with more than enough room for sundries and toiletries. The lobby was magnificent. Everything was spotless. I didn't use the gym facilities, but they looked nice and I was told that they were recently refurbished. We knew there wasn't a pool, but wound up missing that feature as it turned out. The staff was highly attentive. There was a minor issue in our rooms not being ready by 4pm check-in, but that was remedied quickly. The only real dark mark is the location. It is in the heart of downtown, so that is convenient. With that, however, comes a lot of street noise and regular encounters with San Diego's (and California's, in general) HUGE homeless problem. Horton Plaza Park is right across the street, which is continually occupied by homeless. The nearby GasLamp District, despite its charms, is a place where you want to ensure your valuables are well-hidden (I'm from NYC, so I'm no shrinking violet). Lastly, again location-related, valet parking in the hotel is $50 per day! Consequently, while I highly recommend the US Grant, I would likely stay outside of the downtown area and tend toward the Embarcadero Marina area if I were to visit San Diego again.

Great hotel with so much to do!

Beautiful hotel with exceptional service from the staff. The rooms were immaculate and the beds were very comfy. The Concierge members were extremely informative and assisted with daily trips and restaurants. The Grant Grill food was excellent. Definitely recommend this hotel as there is so much to do.

Good hotel but rooms too small

We expected much larger rooms with more amenities. It was just too small including tiny bathroom. The main lobby was very nice and luxurious like a high end museum. The hotel resturant was the best part of the stay. The food was amazing and was given VIP treatment. The valet parking is $50 a day which adds up when you add the tip each time. This hotel is close to good local restaurants walking distance to gaslamp night life. The staff seem to be very accommodating from check in to check out.

Lovely building and hotel

Pros: They seemed to think of everything... down to the umbrella hanging in the closet in the event of rain. As well as thick white robes & slippers.
Location: Gaslamp Quarter, restaurants (loved de Medici's!), shopping.
Not a lot to say mostly because I don't have a lot of time. The hotel was lovely, old but well kept, they seemed to think of everything one might need. I like water and free bottled water was always available at the desk. The restaurant/bar was super... with free combo music on Friday night. The bed was super comfortable.

Nothing Luxurious

Pros: Comfortable rooms
Cons: Better communication from front desk and better service in the restaurant
Location: It was all business
Checked in late, and I was assigned to room 601, which turned out to be room for handicaps. Receptionist did not tell me in advance. Restroom lights were not working (turned out to be a fuse that needed to be reset). They fixed it the next morning when I complained. Also, there was a bad odor outside the room. To get your coffee in the morning, you have to check-in into the restaurant. No one informed me about these details, I had to discover it on my own. On two different days, I came back from a long day to find the door to my room loosely closed. It got better after I complained. Nothing from my stuff was missing. Location is fine, the room view was good. Cleaning and maintenance staff are very friendly and willing to help.
