The pools and access to the Isla Verde beach was amazing! The rooms and hotel itself are outdated as expected because it is a very old hotel, though the main floor is extremely elegant and beautiful. Everyone at the hotel was extremely nice, but once you step out into San Juan it’s a whole different story.

Unfortunately upon arrival our room was not ready. I called one day prior to inform them that our flight was cancelled and we would be arriving later, and was assured that everything would still be ready. During check in, which took 30 minutes, the gentleman was extremely nice but he couldn’t find our reservation. Once he found it we were on our way only to find that they had put us in a room that we did not reserve. The room was actually completely different then our reservation, not just on a different floor or without a balcony. I called the front desk and was told that the manager had ‘upgraded’ our room and the room we reserved wouldn’t be ready until 12p. The room we were given to stay in while we waited had a picture that was broken, the refrigerator was leaking because the door was left open, and it smelled of mildew. We waited until shortly after 12p to go back to the front desk and the room still wasn’t ready, this time not being ready until 4p, an entire day after our initial check in. In speaking with the manager I learned that they frequently ‘upgrade’ guest rooms before arrival and without speaking to the guest, which maybe would’ve been okay if it was an actual upgrade and clean. The manager, who had looked at my reservation, didn’t even know what type of room I had booked and was putting us into another room, at 4p, that wasn’t the room we booked. We did, at that moment, get an upgraded room, that was available, clean, and up to par. But it was a struggle.

Beautiful hotel. Big rooms. Great pool area. Some of the staff was very rude and quick to raise their voice or have an attitude. Very disappointed with this.

Hotel has beautiful lobby ! No help available, had problem w safe ( battery died), no one answered phone! Neither FD , LP , operator, bellman , or concierge! Had to go down and wait in-line at FD to let them know. Phone still didn’t work ever. Because of island electric issues had several short blk outs one night , generator did kick on, that was not the pt, suggested at front desk that they should inform guests of pending situation as not to be alarmed. Spoke w Frances at front desk who was very polite and understanding. My concern was the unknown, I took it upon myself to still travel there knowing the about the electrical fire that happened days prior. She explained that they as employees could not take it upon themselves to express concerns to guest ( I understand that , work in luxury retail) next day they put out a letter in all rooms as a PR update. They made me feel that u have some great employees, like Frances who took it upon herself to let management know some feedback she had received. Also last note room 336 needs a redo bathroom. Do to size and set up u can’t Close door where toilet paper is nor get into shower w out moving door to get in ! Good thing I’m not a big person ! Need all new beach lounge chairs, umbrellas and tables, most are damaged and ripped. Food and drinks were excellent! Just need more help , especially beach and poolside

Friendly staff and clean during the pandemic. Unfortunately the bars and restaurants were not open because of COVID, but the pools and beach were available.
