There are so many nice things about this property that are unique. The sheer beauty, privacy, and a kind of isolation in a lush setting make this so different from the flashier places on the island. There are a lot of nice things about Hawksbill. The clothing optional beach is certainly a huge draw for me. The food is very nice and I have to say, that whoever does the soups in that Kitchen really knows how to make excellent, different types of soups that really hit the spot. The thing that does make this resort is above all the staff. I have nothing but praise for ALL the different staff, no matter what job. There has been no equal in the happy, friendly, Good natured and knowledgeable people who work there. I love seeing them every year. As to what I don't like it's not so much "Don't like" as opposed to "needs improvement". The only thing I can think of is on Eden beach. The clothing optional beach is So nice and remote but needs to have a little attention. Several of us discussed this and would just like to see more, many more lounge chairs, and maybe a small bar that had drinks and or possibly snacks. It would be great to have not to put on your clothes to get a drink. Also on Eden the roof of the rain shelter and the leafy coverings of the smaller shelters need to be repaired. Maybe a couple of more shelters for the rain. Other than that such a beautiful place to be in Antigua

This resort is old, dingy, and in desperate need of renovation. The fixtures are decades old, tile was cracked and stained, the shower water was cold. The tv in our room didn't work, and despite repeated requests to fix; we were told each day that it would be fixed tomorrow. But no one fixed it during our entire 6 day stay.

Villa nice and right on the beach

Pros: Location, staff, and other patrons.
Cons: All rooms need to be updated, not just the one section. They need to put some money into the place, it's a bit worn down.
Location: you can take boat tours, land tours, shopping in St Johns, eating out at Hemingways in St JOhns and a couple of other places. You don't need to though
we arrived on a Sunday, and I was not impressed by what we first saw. Our room wasn't too bad, and was close to the water, but no A/C. Didn't really need it though. However, at shower time, we had only COLD water. I notified staff and it took four days to move us. Once moved, we stayed in the Royal Palm villas. PURE HEAVEN. Right on the water, newer, very clean, A/C, and HUGE bathroom. Very nice, and it changed our attitude about the place. I only wish we didn't have to go through the experience of having no HOT water and having to move in the middle of our vacation. They should have accommodated us immediately. Sadly, we saw them put another couple in our old room the next day, knowing there was no hot water. Not cool. Only go here if you are ok with no TV, limited internet, no kids, and LOVE having fun with other couples. We did enjoy that part. Met so many folks from UK and CA. We did an excursion tour of the island and some shopping as well. Overall a great experience, but could have done without the unfavorable room the first few days.

Beautiful beaches and setting overall, but resort itself is quite tired-looking.

Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet, beautiful beaches
Cons: tired-looking, service, food (including serving hours), no a/c
The resort is very outdated, but it has a lot of potential. It's a quiet, scenic setting away from the center with beautiful beaches, and the layout is spread out. All-inclusive including alcoholic drinks also a plus. But the food certainly isn't anything to write home about, and serving hours are very limited... on their time, not yours. And there's no A/C, at least not in the garden bungalows ($40 addl. charge per night we were told). The mattresses are hard. The service is average. Not good or bad, it's definitely an older clientale.

Beautiful setting, relaxed place with friendly guests and staff.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Hawksbill is a relaxed resort without a lot of hoopla or pressure located in a very beautiful setting on the beach in Antigua. They are not the classic white sand beaches, but very nice. The accommodations are comfortable, the food is good and plentiful as are the drinks. If you want a relaxed time with friendly folks around and are not looking for gourmet fare and 5-star accommodations, Hawksbill is a great choice.

Loved it to a degree

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: no internet in my room
I decided to stay there after a friend referred my wife and I. We enjoyed ourselves daily. My only 2 issues were that our rooms were a bit of a walk from our cars and I wish there were more local dishes on the menu during our stay. Because I'm from Antigua after being gone for nearly 25 years I would have liked to have a taste. Overall it was a good experience. I met a lady at the front desk who said I looked like a man she knew from 30 years ago. The man happened to be my uncle. That was pretty cool. I also enjoyed liberating myself at the clothing optional hidden beach. My wife on the other hand didn't like that part lol I do wish my room had internet access. I was also told not every room had AC so be sure to ask about having AC if you MUST have to have it. I DO NOT do that well in the heat so I had a great room.

Peaceful, older resort in a breathtaking location

Pros: Quiet, fantastic oceanside setting with mulitple beaches
Cons: no television, not many children for families
Our family spent our March Break at Hawksbill form Friday March 12 to Friday March 19th, 2010. My review is written from a family’s perspective. (children ages 15,12, 10) We chose this resort because it offered good value, potential snorkeling, and had a breathtaking setting away from crowds and noise. It was definitely one of the most beautiful locations on the island, and we did rent a car for 2 days and drove around the island to explore and compare. If you love quietness, space, not a lot of people and a gorgeous setting, then this is the resort for you. We were often the only ones on the beach when we did our morning and early evening beach walks. HOW TO OCCUPY YOURSELF We found the guests to be mainly seniors at about 60% British, 20% Italian and 20 % American and Canadians . There were a few nights with some good entertainment such as a fantastic Steel Drum band called A.M.P Halcyon Steel Orchestra. The only slightly disappointing thing was that everything packed up by 11pm or earlier. After the kids went to bed, my husband and I wouldn’t have minded staying up a bit later. The most popular resort activity seemed to be reading a book on a lounge chair (of which there seemed to be 2 or 3 available for every person to lounge on) I had to work hard keeping my children entertained as there were no other children at the resort their age, for most of the week, and no television in the rooms. We had planned to snorkel all week, but found the snorkeling not great. If you could manage to swim out to the Hawksbill rock, from Eden Beach, away from the sand, the snorkeling was not bad. It was quite the swim and the kids were ready to turn around and come back shortly after reaching the rock. If you manage to get out to the rock, it gets shallow and the water clarity improves significantly. I didn’t make any new sightings, as there was the usual blue tang and yellow snappers, but no large schools. There was also some okay snorkelling at the dock area, especially swimming along shore, by dock out towards the ocean. We did see a couple of stingrays. There was a tennis court, so we played tennis once or twice a day when we were not out on excursions. If you decide to rent a car from Richard at the resort, as we did, be sure to check the tires. We ended up getting a flat, but luckily on our way back to the hotel at the end of our 2nd day. We then noticed, on closer inspection, how worn down the tires were. We were amazed that we must have had 10 people stop to offer us help. We definitely felt the island to be very safe and friendly. To keep the kids entertained, I felt a need to sign-up for some excursions. On a one car rental day we tried zip-lining, which offered 9 zip-lines. The kids enjoyed this activity. The same day we went snorkeling with the stingray at Stingray City. I loved this outing, as a small boat took us out to a gorgeous aqua, clear water where a guy threw in calamari that attracted dozens of wild stingray. The stingray were free to come and go, they were not caged in. The stingrays would brush up against you and even bump into you while the food was around. I found the snorkeling at this spot quite good with coral, a variety of fish and extremely clear water. We also tried 2 boat tours; Eli’s Eco Tour (booked on-line) and Treasure Island Catamaran Cruise, (booked at the resort) Our family liked the Cat cruise better as it was a bigger boat with lots of shade, more snorkeling time and only 22 people on it. They took us to some snorkeling spots off Bird Island and had a beach barbeque. It was a lot of fun. FOOD I love seafood, so my favourite food all week was the fresh fish that was cooked while –you- wait on the barbeque at lunch and served with interesting pepper sauces. The fish at dinner wasn’t quite as fresh, and therefore not as good. The morning eggs to order were also good. We liked the homemade calypso/Cajun sauce served over poached eggs. My kids loved all the freshly made blender drinks such as banana crush, coconut crush and pina colodas (without alcohol) and so did I. “WILDLIFE” Besides the oceanlife, there were hundreds of different small birds around the resort everyday. They especially loved to hang out at the restaurant at breakfast time, waiting to steal food from people’s plates when they moved away. They would even eat right out of your hands. (even thought you were not supposed to do this) It was such a pleasant sound to wake up to all the singing of the birds every morning, along with the ocean wave sounds. There were also goats running around different parts of the resort. At night and in the morning we heard roosters cooka- doodle –dooing. Apparently there is a farm next to the resort. There was also this rodent called a mongoose that came out at dusk and dawn. They looked like a large squirrel crossed with a groundhog. Apparently they were introduced to the island to control snakes. There were tiny geckos in the beautiful gardens that we watched from our balconies. We had to get 2 rooms because of having 5 people in our family. STAFF If you made the effort to talk, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had to adjust to the slower Caribbean pace. People seemed to love our children and take the time to have conversations with them. We had a great time. If I were to come again with my family, I think I would try to book with another family, so the kids would have friends to play with. I wish more people would travel with their children.
