I arrived on time for check in, tried to access app for check in info, no signal. I drive out to main road for signal, check app, still no check in info. I call owner, straight to VM. I drive back to property in case I missed a note of something. Nothing. Back out to main road, call owner, straight to VM. I send a message thru the app. A short time later, I get a return message telling me to call a different number. I call, get owner's son. I ask for code to access property. He doesn't have it - he's waiting for his dad to call with info. I wait in a parking lot for return call. 1.5 hours after check-in I finally get access to cabin. Get unloaded, try to access wifi to call home & let my family know I arrived. Wifi won't connect. My laptop says it's an old standard that's no longer supported. So I drive back out to main road, call owners son. He says wifi is "spotty at best." He says it goes out all the time and they have to reboot it a lot. (That was not in the property listing, or I would have rented somewhere else.) He tells me to try rebooting it. I drive back to cabin, reboot. Still won't work. Reboot again. No luck. So I can't get to the files I was planning to work on this week. I get ready to drive out to main road again to find out if there is anything else I can try. Note that every trip is a 20 minute round trip on mostly gravel roads. I look at gas gauge, and realize I can't keep doing this or I will run out of gas. In the middle of nowhere. I also realize that if I were to injure myself or get a flat tire, I would be really in trouble. Enough! I pack up, drive out to main road and message owner that I am not staying. Too much of a hassle. I don't receive a response from owner. I've rented properties with other websites and never had a problem. This was my first and last time using VRBO. Lesson learned.
